Nice Apartments - Dallas, Back Mtn, etc?
Need some help -
Wife has just accepted a great job in downtown WB. She's moving out there sight unseen and we are looking for a nice apartment complex in a great area. Commute is not really a problem, and school district doesn't matter. She likes to bike ride with the ipod, but that's not a deal breaker. It has to be pet friendly, as well.
We're coming from Toledo and Youngstown OH, so I'm well aware of urban blight. I've tried sites like apartments.com and nothing looks promising. I don't mind paying a little extra for the knowledge that she's safe there while I'm stuck in Toledo for another year.
Basically, where do the yuppies live?
Any info would help, pics appreciated.

As a former born and raised resident of Luzerne County, I can recommend a few.
Country Club Apartments, Dallas (lived there 2 years) awesome location, very well kept. Country feel, beautiful golf course in your back yard. They have apts & townhouses.
Gateway Apartments, Kingston (again, nice area good location…more convenient than County Club apts) closer to the city
Green Acres, Kingston (another good convenient location closer to the city)
Here is the website that lists them

Hello Brianprinn
oops, hit "n's" instead of "m's" I apologize
congrats to your wife for the new job!!!
Green Acres is great place. There is a new owner, private management company. I am moving to PA from FL, and we drove up to PA to check out some neighborhoods to live.
We met one of the owners while there, and they have lovely apartments/townhomes. They are renovating each unit as tenants move out. They remodeled the pool, work out room and media room.
Right outside of the apartments is a nice trail following a levee, I think that is what he said. A great place to walk, run, bike, roller blade, etc. The drive to the wilkes-barre mall is about 5-10 min if I recall.
There is another apartment complex down the block from that mall, across from a hospital, which is nice too, but a bit smaller; however, if she is pressed for just a quick stay, then that will be fine too.
I have a question for your wife: where did she land a job and how did she do it? I ask because I am looking, and I am finding it very difficult inter-state looking, and I wonder if I am doing something wrong.
Please let me know thanks.

Check out Harvey's Lake. Only 20 min. from Wilkes-Barre. Water skiing, sailboating, jet skiing ect. There are new townhouses (I think they are called The Marina Townhouses, but don't quote me on that) right on the lake. Many people ride there bikes around the lake (awesome views) I'm sure your wife would love it! Parkway Manor is another small apartment complex. It's located directly across the river from downtown Wilkes-Barre in Kingston, very nice views of the downtown skyline, and it's located directly below the river dyke (a paved biking, jogging, dog walking trail that is a few miles long and runs along the river. Downtown Wilkes-Barre is in walking distance from here, as well as Kirby Park (W-B's largest park) and Nesbitt Park. You'll have direct access to the river. Many people fish or canoe on the river (if that interest you), and the river will practically be in your front yard.

You don't happen to remember the name of the one near the hospital, do you?
She got a govt job at the VA there. It's part of the Presidential Management Fellowship recruiting drive. Similar jobs can be found at USAJOBS - The Federal Government's Official Jobs Site if you don't mind working for uncle Sam. There are 21 jobs listed within 25 miles of Scranton, but most are for status candidates currently working for the govt. Keep looking, they have openings coming and going all of the time.
Trust me, Scranton/WB was not the first choice, but it offered the most opportunity, promotion wise.

That's two for Green Acres!
When you were up looking did it seem like most places were move in ready? Lots of vacancies? I ask because we will only have two days to find a place and get settled, and I hate to get stuck in a lease in a shady side of town.
Anyone else have info on Harvey's Lake? Sounds great, but I'm not finding anything useful on Google. Maybe a phone number or website with some pics?

I found in my apartment searches that the expensive more sought after neighborhoods have a two month or more wait. I think that if you choose a complex and check in with the people here that live in those places, you will not have a problem with any shady areas.
The people here will steer her right.
Thanks for the job information; I will check it out now.

The townhomes at Harvey's Lake ARE very nice, but perhaps a bit overpriced - last I looked they were getting about $1700/mn for a 2-bedroom.
They're nice, but they're not THAT nice, and some of them front on Grotto Pizza's parking lot.
I agree with Green Acres, Gateway and Country Club Apts - all very nice. Considering gas prices, of course Country Club is a bit longer of a commute compared to the other two.

View SDK Green Acres Apartments For Rent in Kingston, Pennsylvania - ForRent.com
This link will give you information for Green Acres which is the one just purchased about 2 years ago from a private leasing company; it is family owned, and they are doing a wonderful job fixing it up.
Right outside the apartment complex is the cemented trail for activities I mentioned.
The apartments by the mall in on bear creek called Wilkswood apartments. These seemed fine too; completely in walking distance to the mall, the hospital, many, many restaurants:
visit: RP Management :: Wilkeswood
RPM management just purchased this property; it is nice as well.
Like Wilkswood, in order to make sure that you don't miss any good complexes, your best bet when searching in google for apartment complexes is to do a search using management companies, or leasing companies or privately owned apartment complexes in luzerne county pa. If you just use apartment complexes, you are limited the sites of rent.com and the like, which really don't help you out at all.
Check out about town website to help in other information as well: Restaurant Wilkes-Barre PA Pennsylvania + Fine Dining - City Guide and
Relocation Wilkes-Barre PA Pennsylvania, Moving + Jobs - City Guide
Also, was your wife already within the government? How did she land the job? It seems I just send out dozens of resumes with no response.
Any other information and details that you can provide will be great. I have been on usajobs now for five months without one call. argh!!! I want to move, and I can not until I secure a position to make money.
I hope the above information helps you guys out.

This is great work, thanks for the help! Shoot me an email about the job, so you don't have to post details in public. I have some hints for you. Have you worked for the govt before? brianprimm@yahoo.com
She is a recent grad, but has veterans preference which helps get your foot in the door.
I'm going to read up on this stuff. Thanks again for your posts!
