I have some family in Harveys Lake and was searching for inexpensive properties there near the lake, and my search came back with some properties in nearby Dallas and a place called Tuckahonnick (or something like that!). Can anyone give me any general insight into either of these two places from a retirement perspective? (Quality medical facilities, restaurants, crime, friendliness, etc.)?

That's probably Tunkhannock in Wyoming County. It's been over 30 yrs since I lived there but I know the area has grown up a lot. And the hospital has changed hands a couple of times. Wouldn't recommend it for anything more serious that removing an appendix or treating a hang nail. but any port in a storm.

Center Moreland used to be a nice area but I don't know where the closest hospital would be.

My suggestion would be to find a rental some place, live there a year and get to know the area.

Anywhere in Dallas is about a 5 to 10 minute drive to Harvey's Lake, Tunkhannock is 30 minute drive.

Both are nice places. Tunkhannock would nicer if you are looking for that small town vibe, it's on the river if you enjoy fishing. As mentioned the hospital there is pretty small. Major medical facilities would be located in Wilkes-Barre and Scranton. Both are about a 45 minute plus drive from Tunkhhannock. 15 minutes from Dallas.

Tunkhannock is a friendly waspish town. Lakes nearby are Lake Carey and Lake Winola.
