Here's another blueberry liquer "recipe" that I made when I lived up north. It's great for sipping by the fire on a cold winter's night!!
Wait 'til you have only 1/2 a bottle of vodka left in the bottle. Then add 1 cup sugar, 2 cups blueberries & 3 whole cloves. Shake it well & let sit for 2-3 weeks shaking it twice a week.
Strain out the "solids" & re-bottle.
Another thing I did up north for Xmas presents...
If you have a pear tree, find some nice "decanter-type" bottles that have tight-fitting stoppers & when the new pears are still able to be "slid" inside the neck of the bottles, tie the bottles securely to the branch of the tree with the bottom towards the top so that condensation can flow out of the bottle.
Make sure the "baby" pear is free-flowing in the middle of the bottle!!
When the pears are ripe, untie the bottles & pull 'til the pear detaches, wash out the bottle, fill with a nice light brandy, put in the stopper & let sit 'til Xmas.
People are always amazed at how the pear got in the bottle PLUS it's a nice tasting brandy to boot!!!
Ho-Ho-Ho!!!

I had some bananas on the counter turning black, so I came up with this recipe & wanted to share it with y'all...
Jungle George's Fried Bananas
1/2 stick butter
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
4 bananas cut in slices
1/2 cup rum ( I used Mount Gay...of course )
Melt the butter in a frying pan & add sugar & cinnamon. Cook on low heat 'til the sugar dissolves.
Throw in the sliced bananas & cook over low heat 'til the bananas start to brown.
Add the rum & continue to cook for about 2 minutes & then light the rum on fire with a match & continue cooking 'til the flames are gone. (watch your eyebrows & nose hair when you light the rum!! )
I spooned this over slices of pound cake, but I bet it'd taste good over some vanilla ice cream or in some tart shells too!!

Jungle George, I think you have a lot of booze around for these recipes........
True story: The liltte fellow who is six is on the way to his grandmas house.
He looks up over the mountains and sees smoke ( fog to all of us!)
He says to his Mom. " Where does Nonnie live" over these mountains
or over those ?( to the other side) His mother tells him...............
and then he says........"Boy, Nonnie must be cookin' a lot of pancakes
this morning, look at all that smoke!"
So the family joke is when we see fog over the mountains, its Nonnie
cookin' those pancakes! Yep.........

Just lose all of your hair and gain a beer gut and you'll likely resemble most of the 60-somethings in this valley who routinely hit on me. (Ewwww!!)

Hurricane Party Punch
Well, we're sitting here waiting to see where Fay is going & if we need to "batten down the hatches" & have a Hurricane Party!!
It brought to mind my favorite drink from the Islands & thought I'd share it with y'all in case you have a summer party!! (yes Summering...MORE alchohol!! )
The hardest thing is to make the "simple syrup" ahead of time...1 part sugar & 1 part water (this way you can make the amount you want) brought to a boil to dissolve the sugar & then cooled & chilled as a syrup.
Fill a glass 1/2 way with rum & add 1 tsp lime juice. Add the syrup to fill & 2 dashes angostura bitters & then top with some grated nutmeg. Stir it up & it's done. SOOO easy!! Just make sure NOBODY drives afterwards!!!
Stir it up & enjoy!!

Ginger-Fig Rice
They had fresh figs on sale at the store & I came up with this recipe & thought I'd share it with y'all....
2 tbsp olive oil
2 tblsp butter
1 tblsp mustard seeds
1/2 cup onion (chopped fine)
1 tblsp grated fresh ginger
1 jalapeno chopped fine w/o the seeds
2 cups basmati rice
1 tsp salt
6-8 figs chopped fine (just cut off the stems)
Melt the butter in oil in a large saucepan. Add the mustard seeds, onion, ginger, & jalapeno. Cook around 4-5 minutes.
Add rice and stir. Add salt, figs, and 3-1/2 cups water. Bring to a boil & lower heat to low. Cover & cook about 10 minutes. Turn the heat off & let the rice absorb the liquid left for another 10 minutes.
Enjoy!!

Czech Peach Dumplings
I was looking for pierogi fillings for Summering & I came across this recipe to share with y'all that my grandma in Nanticoke & mom & aunts all made...Peach Dumplings!!
Since all of them are gone now, I wanted to make some & was excited to find this recipe since they didn't write down ALL their recipes!!
The only thing different from this recipe is that we ate them with crumbled Farmer's Cheese as well as the melted butter & sugar/cinnamon mix!!

Quick Chocolate Cake In A Mug
I just got this recipe in an email (called "The Most Dangerous Cake Recipe" )from a friend & I thought I'd pass it on!!
5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE
4 tablespoons flour
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
a small splash of vanilla extract
1 large coffee mug
Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix
thoroughly.
Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the chocolate
chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again. Put your mug in
the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts. The cake will
rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed! Allow to cool a
little, and tip out onto a plate if desired. EAT! (this can serve 2
if you want to feel slightly more virtuous). And why is this the most
dangerous cake recipe in the world? Because now we are all only 5
minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night!
You KNOW I'll be trying this one soon!!!
