Riverfest 2008
The Lackawanna River Corridor Association's annual event takes place next weekend; Saturday, May 10, 2008. It looks like there will be good weather according to the 10 day forcast ( 10 Day Weather Forecast for Scranton, PA (18512) - weather.com).
The Canoe a thon is a timed race of 12 or 8 miles from upvalley (Archbald or Blakely) to Scranton. There is a sort of mini festival at the finish with some food for sale, and music. It is ok according to the website to bring your own picnic lunch and beverages.
There is a Duck a thon - buy tickets for a stuffed duck race in the river with some sort of cash prize and a river regatta for decorated craft. If you can't race, why not find a spot along the river or on a bridge and cheer the participants on?
I will be racing again this year..and by racing I mean leasurely floating and surfing as many rapids as I can.
Check out the particulars at their website:

Cool Dan, I will look for you. I have a yellow diesel. My subbie has VA plates. Say hi if you see us.
I am taking tomorrow off for the Nelson County Downriver Race. I plan my year around these two paddling weekends. Nelson Downriver Race

I remember always going to watch the canoes go under Decker's bridge or the bridge on Bridge St. in Jessup when I was a kid.

Just paddled the river today from Archbald to Lower Greenridge with two buddies and its at 2.43' with only about 165 cfs. The weather is showing some rain come thursday or friday but not much, if the river drops any and it will over the next few days, it is going to a pain in the a** to get thru alot of the gravel bars. It dropped one inch over the day today alone. I hope they can get a release from the Army Corps because if they don't the race is going to be tough and very very shallow in alot of areas. We had trouble today in about a 8 different spots, two of which we had to get out and drag the boats.
