A 2.5 hour communte is not prohabitive...my home town was 47 miles east of the NYC border and it almost always took/takes a min. of an hour and a half to get there. 197 miles door to door takes me ( from here to my old house)3.5-4 hours depending on traffic.

2 1/2 hours is being nice. The Train will be a local that will stop in Strousburg, Blairstown, Parsippany, Clifton, Rutherford and probably Secaucus and then to Hoboken. Once in Hoboken you will need to switch trains or take a ferry to get into NYC.. I'm saying at least 3 hours and I'm being nice. The local bus to Philly takes 4 hours.

The bus to Philly takes FOUR HOURS?? Wow....it must be taking back roads, or making a ton of stops and stopping for a meal while they're there. I can drive to Philly in under 2 hours without traffic.

The train from here to NY will be just like the one in Port Jervis. It will make numerous stops and then you have to switch trains going into Penn Station. On the Port Jervis line you have to switch in Secaucus. The train will not cut off more travel time, but will be better for people who don't like to drive into the city and who hate sitting in traffic.

How can Blairstown, Parsippany, Clifton and Rutherford be on the Lackawanna cutoff line, when those towns dont even have stations? If and when rail service starts from NEPA, it will terminate in Penn Station NYC, not Hoboken.

I'm thinking it will connect at some point to the same line Port Jervis uses. That is the Main and Bergen county line. That stops in Middletown, NY, then there are stops in Ramsey, Ridgewood, Paterson and a few other towns in between. There is a Clifton and Rutherford station on that line. I'm not sure about Blairstown or Parsippany, but I know there are no stations of those towns on that line from Port Jervis, NY to Secaucus, NJ, which is the transfer station to Penn Station.

If they are going to build the line they will build the stations. The train is going to terminate in Hoboken..Thats from their articles.

But the big transportation news is the return of passenger rail service from Metropolitan New York/New Jersey. If all goes well, by 2010 you’ll be able to board a train in Hoboken, New Jersey and ride all the way to Downtown Scranton. Or, you can hop on board in Scranton, ride to the Hudson River and take the PATH train right into Manhattan. A multi-million dollar intermodal hub (a depot for trains, busses and taxis) will be built Downtown as part of the project.
