I might be able to find a knock-down for less than $100k with sewer and electric already in place and build new. Does $300k sound doable for a small 2/2 home?

another option: some sites selling house plans offer an estimate of cost to build in your area. You'd have to pick a plan and give the zip code where you want to build. Not sure how accurate they are.

Check your zoning laws before demolishing anything. I had to get a permit to demolish an old shed on my property.

I live in Tioga county so laws there are not the same. Never hurts to check. A permit is cheaper that a fine for not having one.

I like to imagine having a nice houseboat on Harveys Lake.
Something made from unsinkable flotation material, with eco-friendly dry composting toilet, and totally autonomous.

If everyone who wanted that had it there would be wall to wall, rather shore to shore houseboats.

Oh, and I saw a Gumpherhooberpelt just the other day. Thought you'd like to know.

Our neighbors, Heights section of Wilkes-Barre, bought a place there in the 1960s. They invited us to their vacation home in the summer for about six years until that no longer worked.

In the 2000s, my older bought a pontoon boat and paid to dock it here and there around the lake. He joined the Yacht Club so that he, the family, had access to a bathroom.

Do you remember Rebel the German Shepherd barking in the antique truck at the end the Heights parade? Bonus information. Our Springer Spaniel once dragged a donkey's head out of the smokehouse behind Frank's Market on Market Street.
