Can anyone recommend a place to go swimming (pool, lake whatever) near Lackawaxen, rt 590? Family with two children 9 & 11. Have a house here for a very long time but rarely get the chance to spend time, but would like to this summer. Do any of the local resorts eg. Woodloch or Masthope allow summer memberships for non-residents?

Most of the lakes are in private communities...but one that comes to mind is of course Wallenpaupack...there are numerous public access points and you could swim or put a boat in. Have fun!

Here's some info on the public beach at Lake Wallenpaupack, located near the Wilsonville Campground:

Palmyra Township Public Beach

Open to the Public - Palmyra Township Public Beach on Lake Wallenpaupack; Open Memorial Weekend through Labor Day Weekend, 7 Days (Weather Permitting) from 9 am until 6 pm, daily.
General Admission - Adults $3 / Children under 10 - $1 (Seniors, 65+) & Infants Complimentary
*Swimming lessons available through the Wallenpaupack Area School District
*Lifeguards on duty
*Snack Bar
*Picnic Area with BBQ's
Route 6, directly opposite Sandy Beach Motel. Call 570-226-9290 for more information

Another beach that comes to mind is Promised Land State Park. They have a nice beach area with concessions and bathhouse.

There is a public pool in Honesdale, located on Fair Ave. I'm not sure if any of the private resorts would allow use of their pool, but you could always call and ask. The worst they will say is no.
