Default Teaching certificate in PA

Are there any out-of-staters that relocated to NEPA that had to go through the teaching certification process?

I'm wondering how difficult the process is. I have my VA certificate, and will have my master's in special education by the time I move back next year.

Thanks in advance.

Get in contact with the Department of Education for the Commonwealth of PA. You can check out the web site and call them to find out exactly what you need. I would say pick up a Praxis Book and start reviewing for the test. Testing standards in PA are more rigorous because of NCLB. Good luck.

I had permanent certifications in NY and when we moved here a while back I had to start from scratch like my NY experience didnt even exist. I think I took about 8 praxis tests just for the elem ed cert and then extra for the specialties. There's alot of info on the website

Thank you all for the replies.

I'm taking my Praxis in VA on Saturday. Actually, from what I've heard, it's harder to get certified in VA as opposed to PA from people who have gone between both states.

I'm going to submit my materials late Fall next year so the process can get moving and I can interview places in the Spring.

Oh so maybe you'll be ahead of the game if you already have to to Praxis tests for VA. In NY we didnt have to take them so it was a bit more effort. Good luck!

Make sure you see what Praxis tests PA wants. Strangely enough, each state seems to require different Praxis tests.
