How accurate is this? I haven't even heard of Columbia county before, but after discovering Bloomsburg was in it, I knew where it was. I used to attend jamborees in Bloomsburg.
What's your take on it? Is it really rural, or is it just land and mcmansions by towns? |

Columbia County is beautiful. Many nice small towns, and farms dot the county and the Susquahanna River twist and turns through alot of the county also. Very nice place to live from what I have seen.

There aren't many major employers in Columbia County. Some places to consider would be Bloomsburg University, Berwick-Offray, Wise Foods, PPL, Geisinger Hospital, or some employers in Hazleton that are within striking distance of Berwick.

I am little naive about PA towns & counties. What type of stuff is there to do in Columbia county? Like what towns are in Columbia county? I going to PA this weekend and would like to take my parents who came in from overseas.

Columbia County is west of Hazleton on I-80. Some towns here include Berwick, Bloomsburg, Benton, Catawissa, Numidia, Buckhorn, and Orangeville. There really aren't many attractions per se in Columbia County, but you're near to a lot of cool things. Each year Benton, a rural town in the northern part of the county, hosts an annual rodeo, as well as a Native American Pow-Wow. Bloomsburg is home to a major state university, an annual state fair, and a charming downtown area with a growing arts scene. Berwick's lone claims to fame are its nearby nuclear power plant and its critically-acclaimed high school football team. Catawissa is a cute town in the southern part of the county, not far from Knoebel's Amusement Park in Elysburg, Northumberland County. Buckhorn is home to the Columbia Mall and some nearby chain stores like Wal-Mart, Panera Bread, and Lowe's Home Improvement.

Thanks, ScranBarre.
I went to the Benton, PA page and found the rodeo info. They're hosting the rodeo between 7/15-7/20. My b-day is 7/19. I thought I do something really different and go to this rodeo. What ya think? I am turning 30 so I thought I start doing some different kind of stuff. |
