Wilkes-Barre's Farmers Market
Wilkes-Barre's Farmers Market starts tomorrow on Public Square in center city. If you haven't been to it, it's one of our cities greatest attributes. Hundreds of people flood Public Square every Thursday in the Summer and early Fall to buy fruits and veggies from local farmers. I really enjoy the sweet corn, myself! Not only do they have fresh produce, but also live entertainment, arts and crafts vendors, fresh cut flowers, Amish baked goods, and food vendors (hot dogs, gyros, potatoes pancakes, Pizza) you get the picture. You can't get fresher produce then this! It runs every Thursday from 11:00am-4:00pm. Everyone is welcome. Come down and enjoy!

I used to go all the time, when I lived closer. I miss sitting by the fountain, looking at all the arts & crafts & listenening to the music. My friend and I would go to the market, then walk past the square, across the bridge into Kingston area & go to Kirby park.

I just got back from there. It was nice, but the skies were cloudy. Just to let you know, this early in the season they only have a handful of veggies and fruits, and herbs. If you're coming all the way from the poconos, I'd wait until mid-July- early August. That's when they'll have a large variety of stuff like tomatoes and sweet corn. I did end up buying some broccolli, some sunflowers, and a blueberry pie from the Amish stand though. It runs every Thursday from 11:00am-4:00pm. Come down and enjoy!

Met the Mrs. down there for lunch today - the place was packed. Ended up with some sunflower seeds, broccoli, lettuce, cookies for the Amish stand and some corn bread from the mexican stand.
You're right W-B proud, the veggie selection is scarce this early in the growing season, about another four weeks for the sweet corn and tomatoes.
Nice to see the downtown area crowded like that.
We're already planning our meals for next week and what to pick up dwhen we're down there next Thursday.

Yes, the fountains are on. A few kids were dipping thier hands and feet in the fountain. I really don't think the police are gonna enforce that ordinance unless there are fully grown "Square Rats" running through the fountain. If you let your kid run through I'm pretty sure the cops will let it slide. People have been using the fountain for probably 80 years now to cool down. They are trying to prevent the scumbags on the square from bathing in it. By "scumbags" I'm refering to the Jerry Springer show cast look alikes that have nothing better to do with thier time then sit on Public Square and harass people for smokes and money. If you spend alot of time downtown, you know who I mean! I wish the city could legally pass an ordinance banning them completely from Public Square. They really turn alot of people off, They're loud and obnoxious, and they scare away the normal people who would like to enjoy the Square, but fear being harassed, or mugged by these bums.

I absolutely adore the Wilkes-Barre Farmers' Market. My two best friends are interns at the Luzerne County Courthouse this year, and next Thursday is my day off from work, so we plan to rendezvous on the square for an hour. It's absolutely wonderful!
