Question Moving to Pa. where to begin?

Hi everyone,
We are currently on vacation in Stroudsburg and are starting a search for a permanent home. We are tired of $18,000 taxes and $500,000 price tags for small cramped homes on Long Island and are in search of a fairly large home in the $170,000 to $225,000 range.
We need a 4+ bedroom home for our children, dogs and extended family.
We also need a place where we can commute to N.Y. that also have good schools. We do not like community living and need at least 1/2 acre.
We have started our looking in East Stroudsburg, and as far west as Saylorsburg. We have also heard nothing good about Tobyhannah and that was from brokers and just people we met in the street. What's the scoop?
We know that $170,000 to $225,000 is low, but in moving we are losing a job and that is all we are approved for. This does not have to be our final home, just a home to get in the area and get a feel for the area. Our children are used to our 4,000 sf home with over an acre of land and a built in pool. We want privacy, but a real rural area would be too much of a shock for the kids. Can anyone tell us about: East Stroudsburg, Henryville, Swiftwater, Tannersville, Bartonsville, Sciota, Scotrun, Mt. Bethel, Effort, Brodheadsville, Canadenis and Analomink.

Scotrun is nice, but I dont know if you would get much for your money there. Tannersville is also ok. Dont know anything about the schools, but it is a nice area.

Good luck. we also live on Long Island and understand where you are coming from.

Maybe it wold be a good idea to rent first to get a feel for the area before committing to a place.

I live in Brodheadsville, you should look here. The schools are nice and I think you can get something decent in your price range.

Default Reeders PA

Thanks for the input. We found a very nice home in Reeders, any comments- schools, crime, we think we found a home that would suit one needs.. The are looks peaceful and the hose is large and priced right.
Since the sellers do not have school aged kids , they were unsure of the district. It is near Tannersville and not farfrom rt. 80.
So what do you think?
