Default anyone know the "fire pit" regulations in Scranton?

I want to have a firepit in my backyard. I prefer to build one. I'm pretty sure above-ground would be part of the "rules," but I can't find anything online regarding policy or procedure or regulations. My neighbors are really persnickety pains in the you know what, so I want to make sure I"m doing this legally, but I really would love to have one this summer. Anyone have any ideas?

I do not know the regulations, but we were going to go the firepit route.. until my brother bought a nice free standing fire bowl and we took his advice and got one. We got it from Walmart for 49.00 and you can get a pretty good size fire going.

Since it is not a perm structure, I would assume it would be okay for your backyard as long as there is no burn ban.

We have a fire bowl just like the above. Works fine for a backyard fire and some marshmallow and hot dog roasting.

I am used to the big ones as well, when it is me and a bunch of friends around the fire kicking back some brews...

but in the backyard with the kids, why do you need a blazer? if you have some nice outside lighting as well as the fire bowl going, you can still roast hot dogs or mellows and not risk a little one getting burned. Besides the fact this has a screen lid that acts as a spark arrestor so we can cap it and go in and not worry about sparks.

If you are looking for a tp'd blazer, maybe Scranton is not the place to be torching one.. find a field and throw another tire on.

Ahh damn, that brings back some memories of my wayward youth. Walking around in the dead of winter with your hand over you beer glass. As for the kids we don't build a fire pit but instead a firewall. Pound some pipe in the ground then build a wall with cinderblocks about 3 courses high and about 7 wide. You build the fire against the wall. It acts like a reflector directing heat at the people in front of it and the kids can stand behind it to cook their hot dogs and marshmallows. I wasn't really making fun of your fire pit as I couldn't even put one of those in my backyard. I do lot of outdoor stuff so I have plenty of chances to be around big fires.

The ordinance in Scranton... fires are ok as long as they are contained in a fireplace with a chimney with a spark arrestor screen { chimneas and such } . You may have an open fire as long as it is for cooking. if you hant a small fire in your yard , keep a pack of hotdogs readily available and you skirt the ordinance...open bonfires in the city wont pass as a cooking fire and will get you a visit from the fire dept who will put it out for you. you may also be issued a citation...The fire pan with the screen on top in the picture is fine...

I once saw -- on TV and also live -- using a wheelbarrow !!! Real cute idea, you can
wheel your fire to your guests !!!!! And wheel it away if it becomes too smokey!!
On TV I also saw them use a rack and cook burgers on it !!!!!
Ain't life grand !!!!!!!!
