The answer is that it's a "second class area".

BTW, anybody know what is slated for the old Markowitz (sp?) building on Linden? They're ripping down at least the back half where the dry cleaners were, probably as I type this.

Because around here, its all politics, and the more time and expense spent on a project is more public $$$ for the network cronies. Its all about the cronyism and kickbacks.

Or, could it be the people who are positive about the city and want to accomplish something, vs. those who are miserable and would rather play monday morning quarterback than run the ball?
Seems to me that if I had the authority to help someone out, I'd help those who are trying to do something with their lives in conjunction with the improvement of the city. Sure, it may be the same names over and over in the paper, but is anybody else even trying? And don't start with the 'deck is stacked against me' routine, they don't turn down people with solid plans who are mentally stable.
Too many sour grapes on the vine around here. It's high time some people wag the finger at themselves. Maybe if they worked harder on their education, we'd have better local wages. Maybe if they took more pride and responsibility in their actions, rather than blame the Mayor or city council, we'd have less crime and stronger neighborhoods. Maybe if they'd listen, rather than talk, we'd have some rational thought...

Bull crap. I am college educated and have a good job and am happy with my place in life. So cut the crap with the lie that anyone who complains is just some uneducated jealous malcontent. Just because I call a spade a spade and point out the corruption of the network in this area does not make me jealous or uneducated. What I am is angry that the money that I have worked for is going to fund a bunch of silver spoon politically-connected clowns who have never legitimately worked for anything in their lives. If they want to fund all of these projects, let them use their own money. I would appreciate my tax money going to things that benefit me, my family, and the general public, not a select few. How about public safety? You know, that thing that Doherty has ignored for 8 years? And we wonder why people flee to the suburbs while out-of-town criminals and riff-raff move in?

Rational thought????/ Do you think its rational to look for raises during the worst economic times we have seen since WWII.
Is it rational to withhold raises from the police and fire depts for 7 years and then give everyone in the admin raises last year and now more raises this year?
Maybe if Doherty was more worried about the residents and not giving themselves raises the city wouldn't be hundreds of millions in debt.
Maybe if Doherty would stop trying to break the unions we would have the PROPER police and fire coverage in the city.
Maybe if Doherty understood the recovery plan he wouldn't have violated it with new hires and record setting budgets.
Maybe if the sheep would stop staring at Nay Aug in amazement they would see the rest of the city is in dire straits.
Maybe if these developers would not try to pull off these enormous projects and try to build something that fits the city we would have a nice downtown.
With that said the 500 block is the only project I like...I DO NOT LIKE THE $28,000,000 PRICE THAT THE TAXPAYERS ARE PAYING FOR IT, but I like the project.
Maybe if people like yourself would actually try and see that Doherty has ruined this city economically and that is going to drag us down and make it that much harder to revive the city.
Just because these guys are building these projects doesn't mean that anyone is going to come.......LOOK AT SOUTHERN UNION.
No offense Luna, (you seem like a nice guy) but Doherty and his cronies have to go. They have to go, so that we can at least stem the flow of $$$$ of out city hall and help the generate the flow of $$$ INTO city hall.
Its time for a change.....
ITS TIME TO TAKE THE GOV'T BACK TO THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF SCRANTON.
