Not to change the topic here, but have you heard about the tax assessments in Harvey's Lake? I heard something about a class action suit being filed because taxes have been increased by 300%?!

I have to say though, I am much happier out here in NEPA...it's got a slower pace to life, it's beautiful, peaceful, and--at least in my town-- there's a real "small town" feeling to it, a sense of community I guess. I was fortunate to find a job within a few miles of my house in which I'm managing people's money in the community, which has led to me getting to meet a lot of people. I never had that sense of "fitting in" in SEPA. There it seemed that everyone was concerned with themselves alone; not getting to know their neighbors, etc. While it IS beautiful in SEPA (I lived near Valley Forge), and there is lots to do there, being so near to Philly and all, I would much prefer my life out here in NEPA. And don't even get me STARTED on the traffic in SEPA. Lord, I would have to make sure I didn't leave my house between the hours of 3 pm and 8 pm on weekdays because it's literally gridlock ANYWHERE you go around there. I was laughing when people here told me about the "traffic" on the Cross Valley out here. If THIS is what they call "traffic" here, I can DEFINITELY deal with it! lol

EnyaGirl, you really have me interested in Dallas. I'm looking to relocate from Marlton, NJ (Philly Metro Area), and I'm seeking a town that is friendly and has a slower pace of life. Although I'm currently in New Jersey, I've lived most of my life in the South == considering relocation to NEPA or Knoxville/Chattanooga TN. What you said about NEPA was very helpful. I am a female in my 50s -- would I find the Dallas area to be open and friendly to someone of my age?
EnyaGirl, & anyone who can steer me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!

I think she might like the Yalick farms up in Dallas.........Clubhouse, walking to stores ( coming soon) pool, quality townhomes. I would not have believed it myself, but I saw them with my own eyes. Just beautiful..........Slower.......not far from the lake.....cute, and charming Dallas is..........
The yards are done as they go along.......Trex decking.......the stores will start in a bit.......the outside area is great. It might fit the bill for you.
No plowing or mowing.........just a nice place to enjoy.

My dh and I were talking about this. We may not be local ; but for the past five years have spent almost every weekend in Scotrun. Now since March we have spent almost every weekend and any spare moments in Lake Ariel.
My gosh, there is such a difference. I absolutely LOVE the Lake Ariel area. The scenery, pace of life, people, ; can I go on and on. I hate coming back to NY and at this early stage even feel nauseous at the thought of getting into the car to go home ; does that make sense?
I know eventually we will make the Lake Ariel our permament home.

Thanks
You all have been quite helpful especially the fact that i didnt realize SEPA was more expensive and more crowded.(besides Philly)...a couple of people mentioned what areas I was refering to specifically: I guess you could say I cosider NEPA everything north of Rt 80 from Strousberg to Berwick and Milford to Clarks Summit and SEPA from Allentown and Bethleham down to Harrisburg and the bordr of eastern MD and DE...Im looking for something suburban ( not rural) with things close by..havnt been to SEPA (besides Philly) in years but as far as North : Clarks Summit and Hawley would be close to what we are looking for, anything down south like those 2?

If you're looking for suburban rather than rural, then Hawley would not be for you. Hawley is definitely rural and is out in the sticks....everything would be a long drive from there.
If you're looking for suburban, yet close to things, then you should be looking in any of the sububs immediately surrounding Scranton or Wilkes-Barre....Dunmore, Taylor, Moosic, Old Forge, the Abingtons, the Mid-Valley, Kingston, Forty Fort, Swoyersville, Wyoming, West Pittston, etc.
