Is Old Forge Pizza overated?
I know I'll probably be driven out of town by angry mobs with torches and pitchforks for even mentioning this, but does anyone feel this way? Don't get me wrong! I do enjoy it, (by the way, Anthony's in Old Forge is still one of my favorite restraunts in the world, not for its pizza but more for its Italian food and atmosphere.)But, talking pizza alone, if I had to chose between famous Old Forge Pizza and some of my local favorites... I'd have to go with my local favorites. Sorry Old Forge  . The Times Leader has a new "Pizza Wars" page on thier web site, and on it, almost all of the Pizzeria's mentioned are "The Old Forge Classics" (Revello's, Arcaro and Genell's ect), and they are getting beaten badly by The Grotto, and Sabatini's. I like Sabatini's, but the Grotto? You might as well put sauce and cheese on a cardboard box and eat it.IMHO. And overcharge for it also! Anyway, I know everyone is tierd of pizza threads, but this Times Leader pizza contest has renewed my interest in this popular topic.

Old Forge pizza isn't bad but I prefer the round PIES (not trays).

I can't stand Old Forge pizza, but to each his own. Those very same restaurants in Pizza Town do have some excellent pasta though.  I'm more of a fan of Tony's in Jenkins Township. |

Samario's on Market St. in North Scranton and Taste of Italy on Meadow Ave. in South Scranto are good. I usually order the paste (lunch or dinner).

Wow, more flame bait, today.
Overrated? Depends on the rating. Pizza Capital of the World? I'm glad it's usually said tongue-in-cheek.
I find it hard to lump them all together, as there are about 12-15 different places and they're not the same. As a New Yorker, I never said New York Pizza was great-- as there's both more good pizza and more bad pizza there than maybe anywhere else on Earth.
So, there's Old Forge pizza I like a lot, and some I don't. Unfortunately, my favorite Old Forge pizza shop, Calogero's, closed.  |

I love Old Forge pizza, I don't think it's overrated if you look at it as not competing w/ other styles but as a style of it's own.

To say that Old Forge Pizza is overrated in BLASPHEMY!
Revello's Pizza may just be the perfect food....along with Windsor hot wings.

I love Old Forge pizza, and New York style pizza for that matter...but anyone who even calls Grotto pizza decent needs to have their taste buds checked. I would rather eat frozen Ellio's pizza rather than Grotto. Grotto just plain sucks...not just their pizza, but all of their food. Their hoagies are terrible too.
Although, for Old Forge pizza, I would have to say that Arcaro and Genell's is overrated....I had it once and was not impressed....maybe I was disappointed because I was expecting it to taste like Revello's. It wasn't even close to Revello's.

Nope...they're trays here. Order a pie and you'll probably get apple or pumpkin. It doesn't matter if you're ordering round or square...in Scranton, its a "tray of pizza." |
