Me and the Missus decided to take a trip up to Dickson City today. We live right near the Arena hub in WB but we wanted to check out the other locations in DC. We mostly wanted to go to check out Petsmart because doggie is frustrating us. He marks when he gets excited from outside noise and I am tired of scrubbing. My boy is getting some pants or gonna be caged when we leave, I am at the end of patience and we checked Wilkes Barre for the washable padded but they didn't have so off we went to DC.
We decided to stop at Montage on the way up because we liked the Chrismas tree store the last time we went up. No luck today though at the tree and then we browsed through the Guitar center and tried the vocoder but I was quickly shuffled out because we don't use the equipment we have she said LOL.
We get up to DC are amazed at how sprawling that shopping area is. In WB, the stores are spread out by having half of them on Mundy St. but in DC they are all on top of each other. It made me remember a post back around Christmas last year where people wrote about the bad traffic there and now I can see why. There is really only one road (Viewmont Drive) that connects the whole thing and I can see how a busy time like Christmas would be murder there. In WB, because of the Mundy factor the are more access points to different stores therfeore reducing the congestion.
Anyhow, we were hungry and quarrled lighty over where to go and then settled on Panera Bread. We had never been there before and as soon as we walk in the counter girl says "may I help you?" So I ask for a minute as we browse the posted specials staring us in the face at the front door. Now we are still clueless as we walk towards the boards behind the counter and the girl says "ready?" So I told we have never been there and to please give us some time. The ever chatty little lady chimes in again that we can by half a sandwich and half a salad so we decide to do this. I was a bit skeptical at first but you know what? We really liked it. The food was great and I got a Coffee which I iced myself and for $1.60 with a refill who needs Starbucks? We'll be going back but in WB as think there is one near Mundy St.
Sorry to say after a nice trip Petsmart in DC didn't have the doggie drawers we wanted either but we enjoyed the trip anyway.
I got in the wrong lane getting out of there and was headed to Clarks Summit, hello Coartist, so I jumped on the Turnpike thinking we'd beat traffic but paid a buck, went slow past a work zone and got off at Pittston disgruntled.

Hello Chefkey! It's wonderful to hear from you again; you've been silent on this forum for far too long, and I've been getting concerned! I was the one who had the unfortunate Black Friday (is that still politically correct?) shopping experience last year when it was nearly impossible to pull out of the Best Buy parking lot. In my personal opinion Wilkes-Barre Township is LIGHT YEARS ahead of Dickson City in terms of long-range planning. There are several shopping centers along Highland Park Boulevard, Mundy Street, and Kidder Street, and all have convenient access to I-81 along wide boulevards. The fact that the Arena Hub Plaza and Wilkes-Barre Township Commons are interconnected reduces the amount of ingress/egress out of each shopping center, thereby helping to reduce congestion on Mundy Street. In Dickson City I can't think of any shopping centers that are conveniently interconnected to one another, forcing everyone out onto the same roadways and increasing gridlock.
I have no use for Dickson City. Besides, Wilkes-Barre Township has the better chain stores and restaurants, in my humble opinion (Barnes & Noble as opposed to Borders is one example).
Thanks Coartist, maybe before the summer is out. My wife and I made friends with a married couple who moved from New York and we could ask them along I suppose. They were stock traders in the World Trade Center when the attacks happened. They are living simply now after the hubbie had some health issues most likely from the stress of trading. They have become good friends and he has quite the NYC accent, it always brings a smile to me to hear it.

I love accents. My one newer co-worker has a very, very thick Boston accent, and my heart skips a beat when he starts talking about going to the "pak" (instead of park) or needing to get some "chowdah." When coartist88 left me a voicemail on my cell phone with his angry-sounding NYC accent, I was lost as well with happiness. Don't even get me started on Australian accents! I wish I had one other than "Heynabonics!" LOL!

ScranBarre, that's right I remember now that you were the one who wrote about the Viewmont madness. Maybe we can all meet there at Panera over the Christmas Season LOL.

Nah. I'd prefer to meet at the Johnny Rocket's at the new Mohegan Sun Casino (which will be opening in a few hours, by the way!!! ) I'm a city boy with expensive tastes for feeding nickels into a tabletop jukebox while shoveling greasy fries into my mouth and watching fellow college kids dancing to Love Shack!

Can't go wrong with Panera bread. With their 'pick 2' option, you can get half a sandwich and a soup, or a sandwich half with a salad, or two halfs of different sandwiches, or a soup and a salad, you get the idea. For an extra buck, you can even get your half a soup in bread bowl.
Also a good stop if you want to pick up some pastries for the following morning.
