I'd been a big fan of Palisades Park in NJ (which was sold off and made into hi-rise housing or something). I know Palisades Park closed in September, 1971, so Ghost Town was most likely still around after that.

My grandfather used to take us to Palisades Park when we were kids, i used to love it there. We lived in the Bronx at the time and i remember driving down the Henry Hudson Parkway and seeing the roller coaster over the Hudson River, so cool.

I think they still have shoot-outs at Wild West City in Stanhope, NJ. Great place, i took my kids there all the time.

For anyone who doesn't know about it, there are some photos of Rocky Glen and its magnificent roller coaster in the Trolly Museum in Scranton.....trolley lines often were set up by amusement park operators to bring business in....
I love Rocky Glenn and remember the other parks as well. I remember that huge roller coaster at the Glenn, that went out over the water. It started going downhill when it was renamed "Ghost Town in the Glenn" or something similiar....HOW IRONIC...that name now really fits...what a shame...

Ghost town was around after that, I have movies of myself probably at the age of 3 or 4 and I was born in 71. I can remember going there when I was 12 or 13 too when they reopened it.

I also had the pleasure of riding the roller Coaster at Hansen's hundreds of times. My Grandmother worked for firm that used to have their company picnic there. The owner would get a big roll of tickets and just hand them out. I was young but had no fear... LOL. I'd ride that thing all day long.

Was also at Angela park before it closed....

Me and roller coasters have long history, I almost made in on Super Dooper Looper first year it was open but after waiting with my dad for about 1 hour or maybe longer to get on the damn thing it broke right before we were getting on it. My Grandmother got upset and insisted we not go. arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh.

I go to the school that is there now and i think it is sad that they built it there. Recently i have found 2 railroad spikes from the old train and was very excited and the old train bridge is still there but we use it for our xc course.

I remember going to Ghost Town in the Glenn in 1972; so it closed after that date.

I was at Ghost Town in the Glen sometime in the late 70's or early 80's. I was in 4th or 5th grade, so it had to be around 79 or 80 or so. I have a picture of me in an old fashioned costume taken there. I alsu used to have a souvenir horseshoe w/ my name stamped in it that I got there.

I also remember another park called Magic Valley. Not sure where that was, I think I went there in 6th grade or so - maybe 1982 or 83?

I didn't realize they were so close..of course where I lived, it was still at least an hour and a half or so from my house...lol. Funny how perspective changes as you get older...

My dad took my sister and I to Rocky Glen when we were kids and I took my kids when they were young. My dad said the he used to take the Laurel Line from Carbondale when he was a boy. Another “long gone” park was Newton Lake Park up out of Clifford. All good memories.

Default The Duck?

I don't know if anyone mentioned this about Rocky Glen way back 'in the day'. I can recall there was a WWII amphibian vehicle that was used as a 'ride'. I think it was called 'The Duck'. IIRC, it was khaki colored and about the size of a tank.

IIRC, the ticketed riders would board at the top of a hill maybe a few hundred feet above the lake and be seated (I wonder if there were seat belts). The vehicle would then be driven down the hill at a moderate speed, to splash into the park's lake right in front of the other visitors. If I recall correctly, this road to the lake was sort of right in the middle of the park(?). People walking nearby would stop to let it pass by when it was going up and down to the lake. Simpler times....I doubt this kind of ride would work today.
