Red face moosic, pa(rocky glenn park)

For almost 20 years moosic and surrounding areas had to deal with the grim fact that no city/county/state or federal official had the knowledge or decency to clean up or restore rocky glenn park.

Its amazeing to me that we can allow slots in our area but not allow other expanding parks like (great adventure, dorney hershey ect.) take over rocky glenn park and restore the pride that once took moosic pa for a whirlwind.

I think that we should push for our county officials to either by the land or sell it to either six flags or to another amusement business to build a park on that land.

keep in mind:
1. the land is just off the highway so it is easily accessible to tourism
2. Emagine the business in the summer? it will be just like old times
3. JOB CREATIONS!!!! this is the key to it all!

Please make a call, write to our leaders and lets stop the bleeding that the abandonment of the park has caused.

From your mouth to whoevers' ears! Be great to bring back Rocky Glen, or San Souci Park near Wilkes-Barre (where acts like Neil Damond sang in the beginning) or even Hanson's park at Harvey's Lake.

For anyone who doesn't know about it, there are some photos of Rocky Glen and its magnificent roller coaster in the Trolly Museum in Scranton.....trolley lines often were set up by amusement park operators to bring business in....

I bought a house in Moosic 4 years ago, close to Rocky Glen Park.Used to do som e fishing there but then they blocked off the entrances.
What happened there to shut down the park in the first place?
I am all for having a new park or something that can help the area.
Why was nothing ever done there ? and who owns it now?
Thanks for the info

I walked into the park a while ago...Itwas ghostly with only a few of the foundations of rides remaining...not much more than outlines and some ruined colorful elements.

I wouldn't have any idea who owns it, sorry to say, but I can well imagine that the good people of Glen Maura would fight tooth and nail against rebuilding it or any amusement park there...........it's now an upscale community, don't ya know......rattlesnakes notwithstanding.....

Funny you should say that. I remember about 30 years or so ago it was actually called "Ghost Town in the Glen".

I would think an amusement park, much like Dorney would thrive in this area. It doesn't need to be at the old Rocky Glen site, but somewhere near Scranton and Wilkes-Barre. We can support a casino, 3 sports franchises, a ski area and various malls and shoppes. It would create jobs for people here and attract visitors to the area. As long as it would be a private company owning it, so no more burden would be put on the taxpayers, I think it would be good for the area.

I would love to see some type of entertainment park return to Rocky Glen. My great-grandfather was one of the original owners and have many generations with fun memories of outings at the park. Every once in a while I have been able to purchase memorabilia on e-bay.

The park was in the hands of a NJ developer for quite some time, but was recently sold to a local contractor who is building a housing community on most of the site. He is targeting people 50 years of age and older. So, a revived rocky glen is out of the question. Currently the Lackawanna Historical Society is hosting a display of all sorts of rocky glen stuff, you should check it out if you have any interest in the old park whatsoever. As for your suggestion though, I am trying to champion a similar cause, please see my 'revive Luna Park' post (http://www.city-data.com/forum/north...-petition.html) . And please sign the petition if you feel inclined.

I remember visting "Ghost Town in the Glen" about 30 years ago. Thanks for mentioning this. I had no idea that it had since closed. I did some digging and found this website about defunct parks: Rocky Glen Park Oct 1998 Views - Avoca, PA
