Good stuff posted. I'm a few months off from the discussion but I'm planning a trip from Wyalusing to Harrisburg next year. Not sure how long that will take but we aren't planning on wasting time other than the necessary fishing, cooling off, and eating. Camping the whole way is the way to go. Can't wait. Been trying to schedule this trip for a decade!

If you guys have any knowledge of some hazards, let me know. I know there are two low dams (Shamokin and Harrisburg). Thanks!
Check this link out.....These two guys did the full length of the Susquehanna from Cooperstown all the way to the Chesapeake....

They used small boats(12') and stop at diners and cooked some food.....

I'm not sure what your looking to do, kayak or Canoe but there would a difference in the amount of gear/food you could bring if your not set up to go light and efficient. Canoes would carry more gear.... Kayaks would cover more ground over a shorter time.....

I use a 17' expedition kayak and my buddy uses a 15' touring boat....Water will be the bulk of your weight and if your up to it you could boil water from the river as long as its running clear.....

Plan the trip like you were going to climb a mountain and had to carry everything on your back for two weeks..........GO light but take whats needed...

Let me know if I can be any more help....Read that story its cool, we have been planning a trip for the full river but we want to do it over 15 days and document the fishery that the Susquehanna has from top to bottom.

Wish2BNPA is on a distinguished road
Awesome. I was actually inspired by a couple of guys who did the same trip in the 50's with canoes. They had the whole thing documented for National Geographic. Thanks Dan, it's very good stuff. Can't wait to push off!

I don't know...Thats alot of people on the river at once.....I like small groups 6-8 boats max...Easier to watch everybody and keep it safe. I guess thats the captain in me...Even know my buddies are solid paddlers I'm always the clean up guy, the last out of camp and the last in just make sure that everything and everybody is where they should be.....I hate rescues and with that many people you will undoubtly have people in the drink......

Not to mention they seem to be stopping alot to eat and walk about...I like to be self-contained.

We are thinking 3 guys from top to bottom in 15 days with a still/vid documentation of the fishery along the river.....We'll see.....alot going on right now and thats still alittle way off right now....BUT a few days with Wish2bnpa to Harisburg from say Wilkes-barre for me might be a nice diversion...

Pic didn't come up Paul.......I am a current USCG licensed 100ton Captain by the way, with a fair amount of logged sea time.

Use the force Luke, aim for the upside down V. Truthfully even if its right next to the edge of the land. Watch out for the smaller sides going around islands because they may look inviting but you might find yourself dragging your canoe/kayak across a very long shallow area. On the other hand some of them are pretty cool.

Personally the best part of the river is above Wyalusing IMO. We were in canoes most of out trips, if the river is at average depth in the summer or even low you can expect to do 8 to 10 river miles a day with a little effort providing its not really windy going the wrong way. Damn wind can stop you dead, even go backwards if you're just out for day trip..

I have map here, not very high resolution and it might be hard to read but I guess its better than nothing. Note that it's about 15 years old if not more.
