Default Danville vs. Lewisburg for Geisinger

Hello--

DH considering job at Geisinger. We are torn between living in Lewisburg (where we hear the schools are great), with its charming downtown, older homes, and 30 minute commute; and Danville, with its somewhat less charming center, excellent schools, and 5 minute commute. We are thinking about Riverside as a nice neighborhood as we really want an older home with lots of character and history.

What would be some pros and cons of each town?

Also, we find Bloomsburg very lovely, though we have heard it is more apt to flood. We have been given the impression that Bloomsburg High School is not as good as the high schools in Danville and Lewisburg. Can anyone confirm/deny this?

Thank you for your help!

I've been through both towns a few time. I think Danville is very charming. Expecially the downtown area. Alot of old colonial looking places and homes. If it was my choice I would just move to Danville. Plus, It never hurts to be only a few minutes from a world class hospital like Geisinger, incase of an emergency or something.

Danville is a nice little town, but it has a very small town mentality, even with some diversity brought in by geisinger. I think the schools there are fairly good, at least they were when I went there 20 years ago.

Both Bloomsburg & Lewisburg have a little less of the closed-mindedness than Danville. The universities draw more people in. There is more that you can walk to in both of these towns, if you choose to live "in town."

All three have flooding issues sometimes, that also depends on your location. In Bloomsburg it tends to be around where the river & creek meet, fairgrounds & park areas.

Riverside is nice too. It has a little more of a rural feel & the streets are prettier (tree lined.) Merk & GMC traffic can be a killer over there though! You just figure out when NOT to leave the house.

I hope this helps a little. I lived in Danville from birth until I got married & still worked there until I moved to Scranton 6 years ago. My Dad moved to Bloom & loves it. It all depends what you are looking for.

Default flooding?

Thanks for your replies--another question I have concerns flooding. I know Bloomsburg often gets the worst of it, but what is the flood situation in Danville, especially for a home right on the river?
