Default First Friday in Hawley

I'm not sure if anyone else knew that Hawley has First Friday events (I didn't), but here's some info if anyone is interested:

Hawley, Pa. -
First Fridays in Hawley continue this Friday, August 1 with Hawley’s own “Party Gras” complete with street performers, live music, a magician and the second installment of Hawley’s Concerts in the Park.

According to organizers, the downtown streets will be brimming with excitement including the antique/classic car show on Keystone Street, the farmers market at the Hawley Train Station, an open mic show at the grand opening of the Village Bath at Miss Elly’s Antiques, a pastel artist who will do professional portraits, a strolling musician and a professional magician who will perform at businesses throughout town.

Most businesses in Hawley will be open late until at least 8 PM for First Friday and many feature specials and discounts as well. In addition to the events in the downtown, there will also be a live music concert in Bingham Park with the band Erie Park beginning at 8 pm.

The Downtown Hawley Partnership will also be selling hamburgers, hot dogs, water and soda in the park during the concert, and there will also be a raffle to benefit the DHP.

“The Concert in the Park series should really take off,” concert organizer, John Salk said. “It’s a great opportunity for residents and visitors to come together and enjoy good music in our beautiful park.”

For more information on First Fridays and Hawley’s Concerts in the Park series call the Downtown Hawley Partnership at 570-226-4064 or Downtown Partnership.

I will be there! All the way up from Southern VA! Well not actually coming for the First Friday, but will take part in the fun. There is a dam release on the beautiful Lacka waxen River. If any of you are into paddling a class 2 river with fun rapids, this is your day. The "bubble" of rising water gets to the put in around noon. This is not a beginners trip as the water does get moving pretty nicely, with several rapids along the nine mile trip. PM if you would like particulars. May see some of you in Hawley afterward. May stop in town for a bite and a beer. Look for the Subaru with the yellow kayak on top.

BTW...I posted about how nice the event was on July 4 Friday. Pretty cool to see in this old sleepy town.

Well we had a great time last Friday. We kayaked on the beautiful Lackawaxen river with a few new friends we met on a kayak board. It is amazing to see how fast that river rises when the dam releases water through the turbines. In a matter of minutes all the dry rocks on the riverbed were covered and it became a wonderful wet roller coaster until it met the Delaware. Our group sort of had to bail out a couple kayaking in recreation boats. The river is not really condusive for boats without spray skirt. We decided to meet a cousin in Hawley after paddling for drinks and dinner. We got as much river funk off of our bodies as possible and went into the Settler's Inn. What a fantastic place. If you haven't seen it, you must. It was first Friday, and the bartender gave us some Mardi Gras beads to celebrate it. I guess the organizers give them out. We decided to go to my cousin's old stomping ground only to find it is no longer a bar/restaurant. It is now a time share, but we wander through to look at the falls and talk to the clerk. She was very nice. The Old Mill Stream overlooks the Wallenpaupak falls. We noticed all the wonderfully restored Victorian homes on the way there. What care these owners have for their homes. On the way we saw families enjoying the perfect weather, walking around town. There were street musicians, and vendors. We continue to town to get another beverage and stop by the Falls something Bistro. They have a jazz duo playing, and it is a really nice place. We noticed a sign on this other place, sorry can't remember the name but it said, home to the best bartender and chef. We ask the bartender at the Falls place and he says it's a nice place with good reasonable food prices. So off we go to grab a bite. Had a great burger, brother had a cheese steak and wings and cousin had the shrimp. All very good. Desert brought us back to the Settler's Inn where I had a latte, brother had a triple berry shortcake, and cousin had some chocolate something or other. If you haven't gone to Hawley in a while you are in for a treat. Nice town, friendly people and lots to do on First Fridays.
