I personally don't even know how "bad" the economy really is. I'm employed by Lowe's Home Improvement, and we've been terribly busy over the past few weeks. With a skeleton crew as well as inventory occurring this particular week, the very few who remain on the sales floor, including myself, have been feeling the squeeze. I'm unsure of our more recent sales figures, but last Tuesday we did well over $100,000 in sales---a Tuesday I remind you. I'm actually heading in early today, for 10 AM, in order to help them out with what is likely to be another jam-packed day. Yesterday I sold so many grills, push mowers, and weed whackers my head was spinning. I'm beginning to think nobody in this valley actually works, since we've been just as busy during the weekdays lately as we have been on the weekends.
I appreciate the fact that our particular store is booming, but at the same time I have a guilty conscience selling things to people and then seeing them whip out their credit cards at the cash register when I'm preparing to help them load their purchases. Doesn't anyone use cash (or at least a debit card) anymore? I only use my credit card at the gas pump, and that's only because I resent having to go into the convenience store only to often times be ignored by the teen aged workers there who are off in their own little world when I'm in a hurry and need to pay to fill up my tank.

Bingo. You hit the nail on the head. People are still buying stuff in a bad economy because they're addicted to plastic. They have to keep up with the Joneses at any cost, even if it means drowning in a sea of debt. When I worked in retail I saw it all the time (and the economy wasn't too bad then), people constantly having maxed-out store charges (with high interest rates!).

Which is exactly why I wonder how the Olive Garden is so successful here. You can get home-cooked Italian food all over the place in this area, for less money than you'll pay at the Olive Garden....yet the Olive Garden is always packed. I don't get it.

Portafino
I don't know about UNO or Bennigan's, but Portafino is REALLY nice! I went there for lunch on 8/7. The food and atmosphere are fantastic. All for Olive Garden prices! Go and ENJOY!

It looks like something else is going in the Uno building. There's some work going on in there. Anyone know what it is?

Maybe it's the new branch of Gentlemens' Club 10? Maybe the Old Country Buffet is expanding to handle Sen. McCain's entourage the next time he visits?

The Olive Garden has pretty great prices, though. 10-15 bucks for an entree is pretty decent.

McCain is going to visit Pride Mobility when he comes to the area...he needs a new Jazzy.
