Well, so much for Dan's "truth"... I'll give you "typical overreaction" though if it makes you feel better.

I love Boscov's, and I love the old fashioned feel to it. It hasn't changed one bit since my mother took me there as a child. I also love the restaraunt in the basement. Dept. stores now of days don't have those little touches, the restaraunt, the deli counter, the pet shop, the fresh fudge and candy counter, the hair saloon. All in one Department store. You won't find any of these things at a modern Kohl's or Gap ect. Plus, at Boscov's in W-B anyway, I never have to wait in line, and the parking garage is right in back and out of the weather. And you never ever have to wait forever like at Wal-Mart. I'd take Boscov's over Wal-Mart any day of the week.

I never even mentioned Boscov's in my post, I replied to 570717's post about forgiving debt. Regardless of whether Boscov's is in the mall or not it is destined to be a indoor fleamarket in the next 10 years.
As far as my "truth", like I said I NEVER MENTIONED ANYTHING ABOUT BOSCOV'S but I guess you just had to chime in. Your just being sheepish, I understand. Sheep tight tonight.

Unfortunately if that store bites the dust, then Wilkes-Barre will have a big empty building there for quite some time, as I can't think of any developer right now who would be interested in putting a department store there to replace it. Then again, Downtown Williamsport just landed a new Kohl's store, so I suppose anything is possible.

That department store though it changed to Boscovs has been there since 1879 and been serving the valley for almost 130 years! If we lose the Boston Store the city will fall and it will eventually become a ghost town.

Exactly. Why should we forgive debt from the local government when they spend our money like drunken sailors? The federal govt. can't keep bailing out places like Scranton just because Doherty doesn't know how to handle money responsibly. "Progressive enhancements" is what they're calling it now? Where exactly are the enhancements in the fine city of Scranton? The citizens would like to know. Why is there a mound of debt in this city with nothing really to show for it? That's a lot of money to be in the hole for and not much improvement. I'm not cutting anyone down here, I would just like some answers.

I'd take an infected hemorrhoid over Wal-Mart in a heartbeat. Yes, they have "low, low prices" perfect for a family on a tight budget, but from all of the documentaries I've seen about the company and all of the research I've done online about their shady business practices and the lengths they'll go to remain "top of the heap," I'll never patronize them again. I haven't purchased anything from them in roughly three years, even though their Pittston Twp. store is right next to my home, and God willing I'll never walk through the doors of the new Supercenter they're building literally a few hundred feet from my front door. Wal-Mart really needs to realize that a large reason why its sales are flattening out is because so many are now boycotting them, including many of my friends and a few of my neighbors. The only way they'll ever attract us back as loyal shoppers is when they clean up their act.

I don't have the time to follow the path, but I do know that Boscov's credit card managment firm is HSBC. Perhaps I just don't have the inclination to seek out the info. I'm still mad at HSBC. They made a huge mess with a card I've had for over 30 years. I needed to reapply for a card when the retailer holding my card moved their system to HSBC. The new card was mailed to the wrong address. Then, when that one was cancelled and a new one sent, I never took it out of the envelope. Something just didn't feel right. Within a couple of months I was charged for men's sports coats at a store I was nowhere near, and I never bought any men's sports coats.
The manager of the store where the supposed purchase took place call HSBC on my behalf, and told them to remove the charges. The signature was obviously not mine. They wouldn't listen to her. I jumped through so many flaming hoops, I thought someone was gonna toss me a raw fish! I told them to cancel all the cards they held in my name. Drat. I really liked those 20% off total purchase perks.
I only keep credit cards for perks on sales, to keep my credit rating up, and in case of an emergency. I pay them off in full each month, and I had an excellent credit score.....not sure what it might be after dealing with these idiots.
Value City is also with HSBC.....stores closing.
I'm not sure about.... Linen's and Things.....store closing...bankruptcy filed.
Best Buy and The Bon Ton (in 2006 Bon Ton moved away from their own in-house credit system) are also HSBC. Keep your eyes on these retailers.
We are, without a doubt, in troubled economic times. However, I do wonder if these stores going with HSBC may have some sort of connection with their financial issues. I've seen references to wacky practices in regard to this bank.
Storehouse....gone
Heilig-Myers....gone
Levitz.....not sure if they have any open stores or not
Neiman Marcus....suing HSBC
There's more....but.........acchhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!! There's something fishy about it all, but it's big banking business. HSBC is huge. Little 'ole me isn't gonna figure it out.
