ScranBarre, thank you for the thread, but since we have gone off course here (as we always seem to do when certain posters are around) I really don't care to participate anymore. The sad fact is that for some in our community, they will never be happy with progress, as they are unhappy with themselves. Maybe we all need to pave the streets in our hearts, preserve the architecture of our souls, and install period lighting in our minds, before we go any further.
I'll be at Luna Park.

Explain to me how discussing the current debt and how its hurting the ability to improve the city is off track on a thread about improving the city? Whats off track is that you think that I'm against progress. I have yet to see any progress. Progress is when you move ahead and help the city thru its hard times and improve it for future generations.
Progress is not the GWC, Connell Building and what not. To get those things going we have accumulated close to $650,000,000 in long term debt. The current admin started with a $7,000,000 surplus and now we are $650,000,000 in debt in less then 8 years, HOW IS THAT CONSIDERED PROGRESS?
Like I said there is $16,000,000 being wasted EVERY YEAR that easily go back into the city for improvements. Thats a good chunk of money to work with every year don't you think? or would you prefer to be wasting it on useless debt that has nothing to show for it?
Don't post in the thread but that doesn't change the reality of what I am saying and you know it.

This does seem easily doable, with no money. All you need is an empty lot-- New York has a hugely popular farmers market in Union Square, and all the vendors just set up stands with tents near their trucks on an otherwise empty paved surface. It works fine.
Courthouse square would have been my first choice too, but I've heard that people are worried about parking around there.. But there seem to be plenty of empty / half-empty lots in town..
