Question I am a New Jersey resident who wants to move to Scranton

I've been on City-Data since June of this year and have mostly 'peeped' in at the different forums in NJ, TN, GA, and PA -- I was confused as to whether I wanted to relocate to NW NJ, TN, GA, or PA. I am seriously considering the Scranton area for several reasons, i.e., slower pace of life than most of New Jersey, cheaper cost of living, beautiful scenery, friendly people.

Because I am doing this alone, I am hoping to get a lot of help and advice from the NEPA forumers.

Can you advise me on the best areas of Scranton? By that, I mean the safest and the quietest.
I am interested in a duplex or townhouse rental and would like to start looking asap.

Any advice would be much appreciated. I've been reading the threads and am still needing advice LOL.

You will love Scranton. Your right the prices are good.......the taxes are good.......and it just about has everything you'll need at your fingertips.

Most people love the Clarks Summit area ( ask Coartist about that)

I find the Dickson City area is the greatest place to go for shopping.
Many times having left the Stroudsburg area ,just to enjoy that wonderful spot with
everything one needs for an occasion.

Being in Scranton, you will be close to other fun things to do. Lakes, hiking, the most gorgeous state parks, festivals galore, the shows at the Arena and Montage. The fun is endless.

Like me, having lived in NJ a long, long, time.........you will find yourself pausing once in awhile to take in the awesome scene. Those mountains hug you.

When your up by Wegmans looking down at night at Scranton you just don't want to leave. It looks like a storybook picture, all those twinkling lights........

I know you'll get a bunch of advice here.........One thing more I can say is that you will never regret the move. Welcome, and don't forget to go to Scranbarre's picnic........

Country View Manors at Dunmore

These apartments are in Dunmore, right down the road from the main highway and jsut a pinch away from Scranton. Very nice area, secluded but convenient to everything. My daughter rented while going to Penn State, they were really nice and everything is new, they are just a few years old. Great location, really.

You said that very well coartist.... the word I am feeling is overwhelmed. I hope I don't get some 'flack' from the *other* forums, but this is by far the most helpful forum I've yet to experience. I've been lurking in the background and reading this forum's posts since June, and I've noticed that the forumers here in NEPA seem to be very nice people and very helpful to outsiders like moi.

UH OH, did you say Penn State? I wasn't aware that there were any college campuses near Scranton. I'm in my 50s (hence 50something ), and I need to be in a quiet environment with an older population.

How far is Penn State from Scranton? I looked on Wikipedia and noticed that there were several campuses -- this was confusing to me.
