Rent a small Uhaul van in DC. Return it to a location in Scranton - like a Budget company.

They have one-way service.

From there catch a Susquehanna Trailways to Hazleton,Berwick,Bloomsburg,Danville,Mahonay City,Shenandoah,Frackville,Ashland. Its a long ride but can be very interesting.Hope this helps.

Greyhound and Capitol Trailways run a pooled bus route (3 trips/day each direction) that travels between Washington and Syracuse. It includes stops in both Scranton and Wilkes-Barre. Go to Greyhound's website for more details.
