Default Stuck in DC need a train to Wilkes barre Scranton! help!

Ok, so Im doing some work in Denver at the moment and then I have to fly to DC...but my schedule changed and now as of Saturday the 23rd I find myself stranded in DC. No one will rent a one way car, a flight will cost over $1000.00, and a limo isnt much cheaper than a flight.

So, I finally thought of taking a train, but Amtrak doesnt doesnt have a station in our area. Does any other train company operate in the Wilkes Barre scranton area?

Unless you hop a freight train, no. There is no passenger rail service to NE PA. The closest you can get by train is Philly, NJ, or Harrisburg.

A bus was my thought too. I've taken that exact trip from DC to Wilkes Barre Scranton on a TrailWays back in the late 70s once and it was a long trip because of all the stops. 6 or 7 hours back then I believe.

Take the Metro to the DC Amtrak station and then take a train to Philly. After that you can take a SEPTA train to Lansdale on the northeast extension, from that point your only option is to have someone there waiting for you to give you the 1 hour ride home. It wil cost less then a rental or flight. As long as you can get someone to meet you at the Lansdale Septa station your golden.

I have done this twice from Alexandria VA after dropping cars off for the auto train to Fl.

Yep, that's pretty damn long! There should be a way to rent a car you would think. How about renting a small U-Haul truck? Heck, you'd cut your trip in half.
