Default We are moving to the Wayne/Pike County area from Florida

Hi everybody,
we were up there last week and it was just a beautiful as we remembered it.
My DH and I went to Cove Haven for our honeymoon 29 years ago and went back several other times. We originally lived in NY and then Jersey before coming to SW Florida. We got hit with hurricane charley on Aug. 13. I am sick and tired of the storms and the heat and the way the commissioners do things down here in the town. Our home is for sale and we saw some beautiful properties while we were up. I can't wait for moving day!
Any Italiano's up that way from NY or Jersey?

I grew up in Pike County (Dingmans Ferry, to be exact). It's very peaceful there, very pretty. Be prepared for a rather long drive to get anywhere. There are plenty of Italians, don't worry about that. My mother is a full-blooded Italian who grew up in the city and she likes Dingmans. She has a big garden w/ veggies and flowers, and is on good terms with her neighbors. It's easier to get along w/ your neighbors when everyone is on 1+ acres of land. The only storms you will have to prepare for are major snow storms and the occasional blizzard. If you crave Italian, go to Lakeview Deli on Rt. 739 - the owners are Italians from NYC and have their fresh bread brought in from NYC daily.

Ya know, the Pocono's is getting a bad rap because of Monroe County.
What a shame. It's beautiful where we are going. N.E. PA...
people freak out when they here the pocono's.
There's good and bad everywhere

We are also moving to Pike as soon as our house sells down here in Fla. We were looking in Milford what a nice area. We visit every year. Our parents have a cabin in Hawley. Hope everything works out for you as well as us.

The biggest danger in Pike County is that a bear might tear up your trash can at night. The Pike County local newspaper, The Dispatch, is weekly, which tells you how much is going on there.
Milford is adorable. If I were ever to return to the area, that is where I would go. FYI Milford has a decent-sized gay community so if that will make you uncomfortable, it's not the place for you.

Hey Kim! Where are ya in Florida right now? We are in Charlotte County.
Tommorrow we have a buyer coming back for his second time. He was here yesterday for the first time.

Christina,
I will have to walk our dog Spanky before it gets dark cause I don't want to have a bear coming and getting us. What do you suggest? Spanky usually goes out for his last walk around 10-11pm...hmmm

Pasco County been here 34 years. Husband is from there time for a change. We have two children and before they get much older we figured it would be a good time to move now. We go up there every year. My husband is a Union Plummer for NYC. WE NEED THE BENEFITS!!

I don't know how long you have had your house on the market. But over this way things are VERY SLOW. Our listing just ran out with the realtor. We are putting it up ourselves. Our realtor wouldn't have open houses when we requested. We are so ready to move. We almost bought up there in Oct. Thinking we would sell right away good thing we didn't. I think they had our house listed to high to begin with so we lowered the price 20,000 still no lookers. I figured if we would do it on our own we could lower it much more. I love the area we are in now but we need the benefits NY has to offer. My husband is getting up there in age and now we need to start thinking about retirement. I am still young lol. We are looking in Oak Ridge and Conashau lakes up there. In fact the homes we flew up and seen in Oct . are still on the market and have dropped in price which is good for us. That is if we sell soon. I figured what we pay for house ins. we will pay for in taxes up there. I do know Milford has gotten hit majorly with electric going up 127 percent. Where are you looking up there?
