One trick I've used in the past is to "paint" the petals with glycerin before "drying" & it helps keep them looking "life-like" for a long time. I've also stuck the stems of fresh-cut flowers in a bottle of glycerin & the stem "intakes" it & keeps it "fresh-looking" for a long time!!

Craft stores like Michael's also sell big cannisters of silica gel which you cover the flower in (use a covered Tupperware-type container) & it "seeps" the moisture out of the flower & "dries" it pretty good!!
great tips george.... my wife loves making artificial flower arraingments and the dried stuff sounds good

do you put the glycerine on the outside of the flower too as well as letting the stem suck it up?

If i were to guess.....the leaves are stressed. Here in this area of the northeast its been very dry and sometimes leaves don't change per say, the foliage color just changes because of the stress its unrelated to fall foliage.

however.....i think that conditions this year are more favorable for an early start to the foliage season

I used to be quite the "Earth Father" when I lived up north!!

I used to make stuff to sell in my friend's Health Food store all the time for extra money!! I'd walk the woods & gather everything from acorns to old rusted pieces of barbed-wire & dried wood & create "earthy stuff", & make home-made flavored vinegars & such & bottle 'em up nice for the Fall tourists & Xmas shoppers!! Your wife can also take the colorful leaves of Fall & coat them with glycerin...they'll keep their shape & color quite a long time!! I used to decorate stuff with branches of these preserved leaves....

Either or......it depends on the amount of petals. The more petals (like a chrysanthemum) I'd coat the outside instead of letting the stem suck it up....daisies I'd let the stem do the work....

Hi everyone. I was hoping to keep this thread going as I would love to see photos of your beautiful fall foliage. (We don't get that in Texas .)
I would be grateful of any fall photos.
Thanks everyone!!
