Default Home's "Walkability" Rate

I saw this link on the Florida forum & thought it might come in handy here in the NEPA forum if potential home buyers want to see how close they will be to shopping/restaurants/etc. or how "car-dependent" they will be....

You type in any address of a potential house (or current house) & it will tell you the percentage rate of "walkability" of that address!!

Awesome site!

My Friend's Apartment in Sunbury -- 62%
My Apartment in Williamsport -- 55%
My Old Apartment in Kutztown -- 31%
My Parents House in Newtown -- 17%

God I hated that suburban development in Newtown.

My subdivision in The Hamptons...err..."The Pittstons" ranks 37 out of 100, or "car-dependent." Viva la sprawl.

Default 82%

I got an 82% which is good, but I personally rate it higher. This is the first place I have lived where I can walk to everything, including my job, which obviously isn't considered in this site.

I can walk just two blocks and visit an art gallery, clothing store, camera shop, library, post office, four very nice restaurants. Much, much more is just another block. My workplace is less than a mile from home and a few blocks beyond that, is the Town Park, along the Susquehanna River.

Neat site..

Of course far from perfect: Academy of Chinese Martial Arts shows up as a "school", Dominoes as a "restaurant". Other small businesses don't show up. And hills are not factored in- San Fran is their #1 walkable city...

My former addresses in Manhattan and Brooklyn rate a 100 ("walker's paradise"), woot.

My current abode rates a not-so-great 58 ("somewhat walkable"), which isn't too far off (esp if NYC is 100) but maybe a bit low because it doesn't recognize shops like Brunetti's.
