Woman's body found in Scranton
There was a womans body found near Olive st in Scranton this morning. This is on a direct walking route for kids to get to the SHS and its just around the corner from where the 79 year old man had his throat slit. The body was found around 7am and that just happens to be the same time that the man was attacked....
Is this area of the city that unsafe?
What about the children walking to school in the early morning?
My pride is restored Mayor Doherty....How many stabbings and homicides have we had in the last few months while you are trying to break the SPD union and cutting back on officers on shifts???????
His personal crusade against the unions is starting to seriously affect our public safety and the health and welfare of the residents of Scranton.
This also the same area that the woman whose body was cut up and spread along the highway in the poconos was beaten and then taken out of town.

"The body showed no obvious signs of trauma, police said."
Unless you have some information on this that's not in the article, it seems like you're jumping to conclusions and opportunistically using this tragedy for some political ends.

Olive St. is the pits. A lot of homeless people live around that viaduct.

Your kidding me right......That is the only way across the river for kids in the Hill Section to get to the SHS and its right where we have just had a few bad incidenTS happen. The man that had his throat slit, two stabbings the next day one block up, a woman killed and beaten there last year then cut up and dumped in the poconos and the Scranton Rescue Mission right down the street.
THEY WILL DOWN PLAY THIS LIKE THERE IS NO TOMORROW....ITS AN ELECTION YEAR AND THE LAST THING THE CITY ADMIN NEEDS IS PARENTS SCREAMING ABOUT THEIR KIDS SAFETY WALKING TO SCHOOL.
The first time they broke the story in the times about the 79 year old man it read "throat slit", then they spun it the next day and said "he was stabbed in the neck"...........What sounds less severe...Throat slit or stabbed in the neck....Thats called downplaying thru spin......Picture the two images in your head which is more disturbing?
I'm not jumping to anything, it is what it is and it will be spun down as much as possible...... It is political by the way because they are using their politics to cut back on our safety and ITS BEGINNING TO SHOW, ISN'T IT.
ONE MONTH AFTER THE MAYOR REMOVED THE MINIMIUM MANNING CLAUSE AND THE SHIFTS WERE ALMOST CUT IN HALF WE HAVE HAD 3 STABBINGS, ONE BODY FOUND AND A TRIPLE MURDER IN LESS THEN 2 MONTHS........DO I REALLY NEED TO CONNECT THE DOTS FOR YOU?
She was between 20 and 30 years of age........Doesn't sound like a stroke to me not in that neighborhood, not to mention when was the last time that a body was found lying in the downtown that didn't involve foul play?
You can pretend that its not happening and you can act like its an isolated incident but I'm starting to see a trend in the nature of the crime in the city and if you don't believe me then go out and buy a scanner and listen for yourself.
Listen to the calls and the fact that they are stacking calls up because no cars are available and they are spread so thin that they have the north Scranton cars covering west side and the hill section and mind you there is only one car in north scarnton now, so what do they do if they need a car.....
By the way a LTCF can be purchased at the sheriff's office for about $35.......

That area, Olive St and the Pine Brook section is the worst in Scranton. Drugs, bums, etc. Makes the worst parts of South Side look good. It also doesn't help matters that that "rescue mission" is now on that stretch of Olive St...attracting all sorts of homeless drug addicts to the neighborhood. Also, remember last year or whenever it was when they found that woman dismembered along 380? That viaduct on Olive St is where she was "living." That's a druggie haven around there, and I wouldn't doubt if today's incident was an overdose or drug-related in some way. In fact, I'd bet on it.

Dan, I agree that we need more cops and more well-equipped cops in this city, but the real reason for Scranton's crime is DRUGS. take away the drug addicts, and we would have next to no crime in this city aside from jaywalking and of course, DUI (and that problem could legitimately be called drug addiction too). All the cops in the world wouldn't remove the problem of drug addiction in this area.
I'm not sure what can be done to slow the drug problem....but its not just in Scranton, its everywhere....from the inner cities to the uppity suburbs to the trailer parks. And I don't buy the new trend of methadone clinics supposedly solving the problem....methadone is just another addicting drug, so they're just replacing one drug addiction with another, and probably attracting more druggies to the area as a result.

Here we go again. Anybody who doesn't think crime isn't going up in our fair city has got their head in the sand. Thank you Mr. Doherty for keeping us all safe by cutting back the police force.

Look at all the coroners we have on the board who can do autopsies without seeing the body and only getting sketchy details from an online news article.

I thought armchair quarterbacking was a favorite past time in the Electric City?
