Anyone, What's that area around Railroad Ave considered, btw? Part of Hyde Park, Bellevue, the Flats, something else?
I would think anything east of Main Ave is not Hyde Park. But honestly, I never hear anyone who lives here say they live in Hyde Park.....people just say they live in West Side.

I never understood why everyone was getting their panties in a bunch about the Yankees coming last year. One year and the novelty already has worn off? They should of kept the Red Barons. At least there was some tradition in that team around here. I knew bringing the Yankees here was just a smokescreen for Cordaro to try and get himself re-elected. It didn't work, just like the Yankees aren't working here.

People seem to have an increasing need for speed, contact, and violence anymore. Probably explains why Ultimate Fighting or "UFC" has gained popularity. That's why people cheer for a fight in hockey....when a majority of people cheer for the fights, its apparent they probably never played hockey themselves and don't really know much about the game itself.

Baseball is still America's pasttime to me and will always be my favorite sport. I like football too....but its second to baseball. And hockey, to me, is like watching paint dry....right up there with NASCAR and golf. Something about toothless Canadians on ice skates chasing a puck that is not exciting to me. Maybe I would feel differently if I had ever actually played hockey....which I'm sure the majority of WB/S Pens fans never have.
I've loved hockey ever since I was a little kid and I have never played the game at any level. I don't go to hockey games for the fighting. I enjoy watching world class athletes, not just Canadians, skate with finesse and speed while trying to avoid body checks and make pretty passing plays to set up or score goals. I don't like the way hockey is portrayed, people thinking it's all about the fights and goonery, when there is so much more to see. I like baseball too, but I find football to be a little boring. Too much stopping and starting for me with no real flow to the game, in my opinion. And NASCAR, watching cars going around and around is not my idea of fun.

I watch it for the crashes! It's just like being on I-81 during my rush-hour commutes.

This is true. Why watch it on TV when you can watch it live on I-81.

Yankees come home to hero’s welcome

MOOSIC — You could say it’s a trophy Joe D’Amato has been waiting for his entire life.

On Wednesday, the Clarks Summit man joined 200 other diehard Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees fans at PNC Field to welcome their team home and celebrate the first Governors’ Cup in the 20-year history of the franchise.

The International League championship is also Northeast Pennsylvania’s first professional baseball title since the Scranton Red Sox turned the trick in 1951. That was the year Mr. D’Amato was born in New York, becoming almost by default a fan of the New York Yankees, SWB’s parent club.

“This team had a lot of heart,” Mr. D’Amato, sporting a gray Yankees sweatshirt, said as he waited for the team outside the stadium. “They had a lot of changes in personnel throughout the year, but they always had the heart and the will to come back.”

I actually think attendance would be just as good or better if we had a team other than the Yankees....because, unless you're a NY Yankees fan, you really won't support this team. The Yankees are a polarizing team, you either love them or hate them....yes, there are a lot of Yankees fans in this area, but there's also a lot of Phillies, Mets, and Red Sox fans around who will never really become fans of a team called the Yankees. Now, if we were to get one of the other teams we were rumored to be getting, like the Orioles or Nationals, they're both kind of neutral and everybody could have gotten behind them. The least they could have done with this Yankees-affiliated team was to either keep the Red Barons name or come up with some other name of our own, rather than the "Yankees" with identical uniforms as NYY. I guarantee that you won't catch a local Red Sox or Mets fan dead wearing a SWB Yankees hat, but a lot of them did support the Red Barons and wore their hats, shirts etc.

That's a good point. So you think the name is more important than the actual affiliation?

I vote for the Anthracites, or the ScranBarres. (If SWB is giving up the name. )

Edit: Another good coal-themed one: the breakers
