Default Money Magazine names Luzerne County's Back Mountain 20th most affordable place to live!

Our very own Back Mountain in Luzerne County, Pa. (northern suburban area just outside of the city of Wilkes-Barre) was just ranked 20th for most affordable housing in the U.S., after a national search by Money Magazine. This is good news for people looking to locate to the area that are looking to get the most bang for thier buck, and for NEPA as a whole. I'd post the exact article, but I do not know how to do it, maybe someone else can post it for me. Thank You!

Talk about great minds thinking alike! LOL! I was just about to post a new thread with the very same information! I'm sure EnyaGirl will be very happy to hear she made such a wise investment in the Back Mountain.

P.S. Don't you love the Harvey's Lake people whining about this at every juncture because they're still upset over their taxes increasing? BOO HOO! Secede already! ARRGHHH!!!

anytime money magazine rates anything run ha ha ha....

actually a few years ago i took on the challange of going head to head with their team of proffessionals vs my own financial plans.. we faired very well and the few changes they would have made would have proved big loosers in the long run today. it was alot of fun though. we especially loved the photoshoot. i came home from work and all our furniture was in the hall. we had makeup people and the living room all set up like a little studio. if i tell you they took hundreds of photos for 2 pictures they used in the article. it was fun though, the articles still up on the CNN website even though its a few years old already... we hoped to be retired by now but still arent ready although we did get our house in nepa.... if anyone wants to read the article ill be happy to send you the link but i didnt want to turn the nepa board into a financial discussion board.

Saying that the Back Mountain is the 20th most affordable place to live in the US is not exactly true. The Back Mountain is one of the more expensive places in NE PA alone to live, so how is the Back Mountain on that national list, without valley cities like Wilkes-Barre, Scranton, and their immediate suburbs ahead of it?

.I think they were talking about getting a nice suburban house at a very affordable price. They said the average cost of a home in Back Mountain was $179,000, and the median annual income was $79,000. Yeah, they could have found cheaper, ramshackled houses in the city, but I think they were talking about "the best homes for your money."

I doubt the average home price in the Back Mountain is only $179,000 anymore. Maybe a few years ago, but not now. Its seems the average house is more in the $300,000+ range in that area now.

Yeah, I'm not sure were they got thier info from?, but that is what they concluded. They probably took the average home price, and the average annual income, and the closer together they were together, the higher ranking you got. I wonder if they figured in the new reassessment rates though.

Actually there are still a number of bargains to be found even in our most exclusive of suburbs. For example coartist88 bought a very nice home (from what I've heard) in Clarks Summit for around $180,000 if I'm not mistaken. That's very reasonable, especially considering it is in a subdivision in a nice part of town. There are plenty of homes in the Back Mountain on the market now for the $175,000-$200,000 range, although the ones that are $500,000+ get the most attention (largely because the whiners like Mrs. Boice of Harvey's Lake have been beating their chests incessantly to the local media over their "too darned high" reassessments of their posh lakefront homes as if we're supposed to feel sorry for them).
