Since I live in The Hideout...my vote still goes for The Hideout, especially if your looking into buying a vacation home. It is a 4 season recreational community, so not only do you have your winter sports...but you have activites year round!

Hi there I LOVE PA........I know the Hideout is fantastic. Do they have skiing?
The poster was asking for skiing and for some reason I didn't know you have it there...... If so......I know that everyone loves it in your community, that is a certain.

Elk is clearly the best in PA.
But Sno Mountain should be up there at least. I was a ski instructor at Montage during the 2001-2002 season, so I know the mountain well. It has a 1000 foot vertical, the steepest expert slope in PA (White Lightning), and several other short bump runs and expert slopes. It's not bad really.
However, the intermediate selection isn't as good, with several basically identical trails. Also, the lifts are ancient and slow. And I don't even know what to think about the new management. They look so unprofessional.
Honestly, even though I skied there regularly for 15 years (including over 50 days in 01-02), I've only been back once in the last 6-7 years. I'm only 45 minutes from Elk when I'm back in NEPA, so that's where I usually go.
For anyone wanting to take a ski trip weekend, it's kind of hard to recommend *any* PA ski resort when Windham and Hunter are just 3 hours north of here. And hell, if you're going to make a weekend out of anything, just go to Vermont!

Bad things about The Hideout...can't think of any off the top of my head. And after living here 14 years...I think that says a lot! I have posted many things about The Hideout here on City Data...do a search and you will find lots of info. You will also find lots of people who were told to stay away from The Hideout...mostly by Realtors. Nothing based on facts though.
As far as the Ski Hill...it is not huge. Don't know how high their biggest hill is, but they have a lift, a separate bunny hill and separate tubing runs, a lodge, and ice skating rink all in one location...they give lessons and have rentals of snow boards and skis.
