there is an NJ transit train 20 mins away in Hackettstown. From that its about 2 hours away though. Straight driving I would think about an hour 20 depending on how close you get before hopping a train.

Regarding the commute...I love NYC and I lived there for 7 years...and I am from NEPA, so it was natural for me to move back here...but I work here now...and I could never tell someone this is an easy commute. I think of a trip to NYC as something I want to do overnight because making the drive in one day, even when I am not on a schedule, is too overwhelming. I can't even imagine what it would be like to do it every day. I live about thirty minutes further away form the closest areas in proximity to NYC, but even at 2 hours one way(which is optimistic), it is still too much of my life in a car. But you have to decide that for you. I just wanted to say so because I hear the question from time to time, and the answer to me seems so clear.

We in NEPA live in a beautiful place where the happinesses for us are probably too numerous to mention...but we do not live in a suburb of NYC...and I think the kind of lifestyle that would entail would drain any normal humanoid.

I'm building my house in Saylorsburg,PA. The commute is not bad at all. It takes me about 1hr.20min. What's good for me may not be good for you. first off I work in Queens, NY during the midnight tour so there's little to no traffic, Second, I only work 4 days a week, and when the house is done I know that I'm gonna be anxious as hell to get home, Oh and when I get stuck (overtime) 2 maybe 3x's a week, I stay at moms. So you see it's not that bad.

We have a joke here that the train from Hackettstown runs once a day and takes about 8 hrs. It's a bit of an exageration...but you get the point.
