It is almost unbelievable that once again, so soon after invading Iraq, we find ourselves in this position of politicians rushing to judgment without any foresight or even concern regarding who will have to deal with the consequences of their ill-conceived decisions.

Barletta's a xenophobic jerk. He's not getting my vote.
As for the bail-out. I haven't really read enough about it to judge. Sure does feel rushed through, though.
And I'm still stunned by the arrogance of the Bush administration in putting forth the initial bill that called for no oversight or accountability for the Treasury Dept's handling of the $700B. I don't know how their arrogance can still surprise me after 8 years, but it does.

Sure, because keeping ILLEGAL aliens out is "xenophobic....." I'm sick of the politically correct BS.... ILLEGAL means ILLEGAL. Period. Did you not see that a factory in Taylor, right down the road, got busted for hiring illegals last week??
The federal government has done nothing to stop illegal aliens....the democrats have too many bleeding hearts, and the republicans like illegals because of the cheap labor for the rich campaign contributors... So Lou Barletta took matters into his own hands to try to save his city from becoming an illegal alien barrio. Unfortunately, his law was struck down by a corrupt liberal activist judge.
So vote for corrupt pork-barrel Kanjorski, who gave his nephews millions of taxpayer dollars for a failed business venture....

Heh, politically correct? Who even uses that term any more?
Barletta's laws were deemed unconstitutional, ie ILLEGAL. So you could call Barletta an ILLEGAL, too.
Anyway, it seems beyond just law and order, more like fear and hostility. And fear of/hostility to "illegals" is xenophobia.
I didn't hear about the factory in Taylor though.. What kind of factory and where in Taylor was it?

To be fair though, Blip, sometimes it takes a "maverick" to get the ball rolling. Just look at Scranton's often-beleaguered city council as a prime example. They passed a city-wide smoking ban knowing in advance that it was unconstitutional, but they decided that putting the interests of the public health of Electric City residents and visitors was more important than "staying in line and doing what Harrisburg tells you." Scranton, Erie, and Allegheny County were the three "catalysts" to re-ignite the public smoking debate that has now finally resulted in a smoke-free Pennsylvania, permitting my lungs to breathe a bit easier when entering my favorite restaurants.
In similar fashion Mayor Barletta's policies sparked widespread national attention and got people talking again about illegal immigration in their communities. Once again his policies were indeed illegal, but at least he got the ball rolling to get something accomplished. I respect him for that as someone who is similarly concerned about our nation's future in respect to unchecked immigration (seeing the major market crash today already implies we're in danger of becoming a second-world country in the not-so-distant future). What "revolutionary" ideas has Kanjorski brought to the table? "I saved Tobyhanna" doesn't count. "I fought for the inflatable dam" doesn't count. "I sponged off of the taxpayers to unethically funnel money to my nephew's failed business venture" is more aligned with what he SHOULD be telling his constituency.
This is one left-wing radical Democrat who is solidly supporting Lou Barletta this Fall!

There was article in the CV last week about an independent poll, if the pol was accurate Kanjorski is so far behind he can't possibly win. Was like 60 - 30.

Never underestimate the power of the Echo Boomers like myself. Senior citizens may still proportionately be the largest group of voters, but I must say that not a day goes by here on campus where everyone isn't talking about the upcoming election. So in the November election when all of the blue hairs from Nanticoke touch the screen for "straight Democrat" folks like me and my college peers will be rallying behind Lou Barletta in an effort to oust these slugs and implement some true change. 2008's election will go down as one of "change" for certain. The 2000s thus far have been an awful decade---Enron, 9/11, Sarbanes-Oxley, Katrina, soaring gas prices, the sub-prime mortgage crisis, the credit crunch, the current gasoline shortage in the South, horrible television shows, and now the impending recession, amongst other trials and tribulations, with very little to mitigate that. Those of us too young to have been able to appreciate the "tech boom" of the mid-to-late 1990s are wondering "when is OUR turn to enjoy life?" I can safely say that the past eight years of my life have been depressing, and I highly resent President Bush, Paul Kanjorski, and all of these other "slugs" in power who have just stood by watching it all unfold.
We Echo Boomers are ticked off (and rightfully so). We don't want to be given an IOU from the SSA when retirement comes. Student loan debt is soaring while entry-level starting salaries remain relatively flat. We have to worry about being drafted into the next war with the next nation we poke our nose into for no good reason. We have to worry about being able to start a career in financial services on the cusp of a national recession. I'm angry. I'm voting out nearly every incumbent in November. I don't care what Paul Kanjorski has done for seniors. What has he done for the middle-class blue-collar families or for the Echo Boomers? Absolutely NOTHING. He just panders to the blue hairs who vote for him because they fear the unknown.
