Default Waverly, PA

Anyone have any input on Waverly, PA. My wife and I are thinking of relocating. We like Waverly. We like the history and charm of the city. Can anyone give us a more day to day look of what the town is like. thanks

If you're interested in seeing some photos of the town, I included Waverly as part of my brief 2007 photo tour of the Clarks Summit area:

http://www.city-data.com/forum/north...t-waverly.html

Waverly is a small village that serves as the "town center" of sorts for Abington Township, an affluent township with a very well-educated population (60% of residents possess at least a Bachelor's Degree). The village itself is quite charming; it always reminded me of the quintisenntial New England village with its colonial meeting hall, small churches, general store, and deli all surrounding a beautiful town green. The community is part of the highly-regarded Abington Heights School District.

Member to570717 is either a native of Waverly and/or has family there, so he would likely be the best member to consult about this. Member coartist88, a retired man of the badge, recently retired to Clarks Summit, near Waverly, with his family from Staten Island, so he, too, would be a good resource to consult.

To me the only downsides to living in Waverly would be the astronomical cost-of-living (highest median home prices in the area, along with relatively high Abington Heights school taxes) and the "class envy" factor in that when people find out you're "from Waverly" they tend to envision you as a snob due to the sheer materialistic gluttony of those who live in the sprawling NJ-style subdivisions outside of the town center.

when my husband and i were considering moving back to NEPA - we looked in waverly. it is charming, but expensive. abington is a very good school district. there is really no "Town" per say. you would need to venture down to clarks summit, but i would have totally lived there if we had moved up that way!

good luck.
