Lake Scranton Break-Ins
To those of you who enjoy the walking path around Lake Scranton for recreational purposes I just thought I'd let you all know that there has been another recent spate of car break-ins at all hours of the day. Earlier this morning I was sitting in my car waiting for my running partner to show up, and he was running a bit late. I suppose someone thought I was "acting suspiciously" so they called 911. A Dunmore police cruiser pulled into the lot and parked nearly across from me. After a few minutes he pulled up alongside of my car, got out, and started walking towards me. I opened my door and greeted him. He began to question me about my activities, pointed to broken glass nearby from other car windows that were smashed in prior days, etc. I told him that I was waiting around for my running partner (who never showed up by the way! ) and then he took my plate number and ran it. After a few minutes he left. Figuring I couldn't stick around any longer waiting without drawing further suspicions from people I left. It turns out my running mate was called into work and never let me know.
I just thought I'd let everyone know that in addition to the skyrocketing violent crime occurring just down the hill in Scranton, now even favored recreational areas are the targets of vandalism and property theft. My best advice to anyone heading there would be to keep your personal belongings in either a glove compartment or center console compartment, out of plain sight. According to the officer a lot of dumb women had been leaving their purses sitting right on their front passenger's seats. Locking your doors is always essential as well. I live in an upper-middle-class area and everyone around me has their doors and windows firmly secured.
Is crime on the rapid increase everywhere?

This is common sense and you would be surprised how many people are missing it. Also, I believe in a full carry permit. It is going to get worse with this economy. Someone stole some catalytic converters from Crazy Fingers Parking Lot. It seems that you need due diligence even when you grab a bite to eat these days.

That is nothing new, break-ins have been very prevalent at the lake for years. At one point they even had security posted in the lots.

I agree with you 101% HH!! It's just gonna get worse as more & more people are forced lower & lower on the economic ladder!!
Down here they're stealing bronze plaques & statues from cemetaries & churches to sell in Miami for melting, & a new one lately is stealing the outside a/c units from people's homes for the copper piping!! Imagine coming home from work & your a/c unit's missing!!!

LTCF are around $35 at the local sheriff's office. Get them while you can.....If the democrats get the White House then we are done....Back to having to show I.D. for ammo and waiting periods for handguns and generally a squashing of the 2nd amendment.
The only ones with the guns will be the criminals....
Its only going to get worse around here because of the economy and whether the "sheep" want to admit it, Doherty's foot on the throat of the SPD.

Better advice would be to lock them in your trunk. Locked gloveboxes and center consoles are easy enough to get into once a window is smashed. Even better advice would be to leave those items at home if they will not be in your posession while you walk/jog the lake.

A lot of the places used by kayakers have been hit. For us it is best to take as little as possible with you when doing recreation (credit card, some cash, cell etc) and take it with you when you are paddling (or running or peddling). Thieves usually do a smash and dash (windows are costly!) so most of us just leave the car unlocked. I have a subaru radio..nothing fancy that would warrant stealing. If they search they don't find

Probably not, but Hat has the right to carry a firearm in this state concealed or open if someone chooses to do so. The point is be prepared, trained and you can defend yourself or property with a firearm. Just because you have a gun does not mean that you are going to nor looking to shot someone.
What happens when they start robbing the cars with people in them?
