Ok, all of you knowledgable Pocono people...help, please!
Hi! I am looking to relocate to the Pocono's and am thinking a gated community would work out pretty good for me - since I am getting old , single, and will have less for them to worry about! Having a lake or water of some sort is important...as having things to do (trails, pool, fishing, etc. Love nature - so maybe near a state park for extra wildlife?) I have 2 dogs... so ones that allow only 1 won't make it LOL!
I have done tons of reading and research...and still at a loss! I want to stay within 25 minutes or so of Stroudsburg. I swear I am going crosseyed trying to read maps; membership rules, etc.
So...anyone out there willing to give me input, share info., hints, etc would be really appreciated by me! I will still be working, as money isn't limitedless...so info on community dues, etc. would help!
Thanks to all...
Sara
PS... I have been reading on here for a while and have read about some's opinions on certain communities, etc.....so, please, no starting wars on any!

By all means, stay away from "A Pocono Country Place". Since you've stated you're getting older in your years, I wouldn't recommend that place even though it is around 25-30 minutes from Stroudsburg. What I would suggest is getting an opinion from a realtor as to what would be best for you. When I was house-hunting last year, Charlie Carmella from Wilkins in Stroudsburg was really helpful and patient with me even though he didn't get a big commission from the sale. He explained the whole process and what to look out for. Really great guy. You can choose any realtor you like but I think using a realtor would be more of a help for you. Good luck!!

I think you might like Lake Harmony. It has a nice big lake, for boating and fishing. Lots of restaurants. It is close to many State Parks including Hickory Run State Park, and Tobyhanna State Park amongst others. ( Goldsboro, Big Pocono )
Other then that Towamengsing Trails is nice with a lake and boating, near State Parks and other good hiking, fishing areas. Towamensing has a beautiful pool, and clubhouse, a nice swimming area or two also.
Those places would keep you within 20min to 30 min to Stroudsburg.

I am not familiar with the Stroudsburg area...but I will interject one suggestion even though it's not by Stroudsburg. Skyview Lake Estates is in Greentown, and I thought of it for you because it's very close to Promised Land State Park...an amazingly beautiful park with two lakes and lots of trails and some falls. It is in Greentown. Skyview has their own lake as well and although I don't know much about it, I remember it being attractive when I looked at a home in there a year and a half ago.
