Exclamation Lancaster, Hershey or Poconos?

Narrowed our search down to these three places, we've been on weekend vacations to all 3 (but that was over 5 years ago). Not sure what the crime stats are or if they are good places to move to. Have read that there are a lot of immigrant problems in Lancaster but have not heard anything on Hershey or Poconos...any advice at all will help, thanks!

Lancaster city isn't too hot. Suburbs are better, I was considering Ephrata, Manheim, Lititz area. Hershey looks beautiful, and the prices are higher than the other parts of Lancaster County. Parts of the Poconos aren't too good.

Thank you for your response...I'll veer my search towards Hershey, Lititz and Manheim and steer clear of the poconos. Thank you again!! =D

Millersville (Lancaster County) is a small college town w/o an immigrant problem. DH and I went to school at Millersville University and it's a nice quaint town. Also, there are nice towns off of Route 30 towards Rockvale Square Outlets.

Lancaster not only has an immigration problem, but the crime there is very bad! Out of the 3 you chose, I would pick Hershey! It is beautiful, people are very nice!

Lancaster City I wouldn't raise kids in unless you have the $$ to send them to private schools. The city however has some really nice sections. Pretty much all of the suburbs are nice. The most prestegious suburban school district is Manheim Township with Hempfield and Lampeter-Strasburg being a close second and third.

How could immigration be a problem? If immigrants are coming, then the economy is growing and jobs are being filled. More jobs will come as the labor pool grows.

I have a townhouse in Lancaster it is between millersville and lancaster (my kids attend millersville university).

My daughter tells me the city is bad and never go downtown she said it is really bad.

Even though our developement is on the edge of the city every few months cars are broken into.

Millersville looks to be a nice area but I do not know much otherwise. I have heard many people say do not live in the city there.

I live in the Poconos- which is a 3 county area. Pike and Monre have more New York and Jersey Residence and yes they have problems up there. But that is because the population is growing so much with people from the city.

Carbon County(were I live) is not as fast growing mainly because it is economiclly depressed. Schools are not great and you need to send your kids to private.

But be ready to pay some great taxes on your home. Our taxes are high in this state.

Hershey would be the best of the 3 choices you listed.

Good luck

Many immigrants are farm laborers and they're just replacing the Amish that are moving out rapidly, not growing the labor pool. Since many of them are illegal they're exploited and paid very little, to the point that some farms are actually replacing machinery with cheap immigrant labor.

I'm no economist but all that doesn't sound too healthy for the economy - especially since all their kids are on public insurance but they don't pay anything into the system because of course those kinds of jobs are below the radar of the tax man.
