Default Clarks Summit Residents Could someone please tell me why

that man by the fruit stand on 6 and 11 in Clarks Summit has pulled down every tree and torn into the hill to make it an eye sore, he has been going around in a circle all summer tearing everything up. What is wrong these days - someone else has torn into the mountain in Chinchilla.Trees are what makes this place beautiful and what makes property worth more. I see more and more getting torn down than planted.

As an outsider who has lived in many places, Pennsylvania is beautiful but its natural beauty is being destroyed, not to talk about what they done to Glenburn Pond, now another eyesore.

Clarks Summit is beautiful but what about preserving its beauty -

The Abingtons REALLY need to learn a thing or two about long-range land-use policy and should even consider establishing an urban growth boundary. I believe South Abington Township has just eclipsed Carbondale in terms of population to become the county's third-largest community behind Scranton and Dunmore. Some of the developments out there actually blend into one another now. The countryside surrounding Clarks Summit is some of the most beautiful in all of NEPA and is home to such treasures as Miller's, Roba's, agricultural lands, and equestrian areas. Do we really want to lose all of this just because housing developers have no scruples?

It really is a shame. I ride throught there on my way to and from work everyday and see it happening. I dont know what is going on with glenburn pond now but they should just fill it and leave it alone. The area is going down hill and fast.. Its moving north too. thats what scares me. there is nothing wrong with a little development but this is just ridiculous.

I feel that the area may become another Long Island eventually. It still is beautiful and if there are restrictions on the builders then maybe it will not become so congested.

No. Clarks Summit is beautiful just the way it is. How many "abandoned houses" do you see there? However, its population is declining, believe it or not, because a large number of the families in the borough are moving to South Abington Township and buying new lots in newer developments. That's not good for the tax base of Clarks Summit, my friend, especially since if enough people leave then your taxes will have to go up to make up for their loss. The alternative is not "abandoned houses," but rather it is preserving the trees and open space that make the Abingtons such a special place. Do you really want to see the countryside around Clarks Summit turn into the next North Jersey or Long Island?

Remember to differentiate between CS and South Ab or Chinchilla. Certain areas of Clarks Summit are getting screwed by developers but for the most part it is ok. South Ab is a different story. Clarks Summit will remain the best place to live in NEPA.
