Default Need advice on w/b homes- s. Main or elizabeth street

Hi Everyone:

Just wanted to see what you experienced Wilkes-Barre residents and others have to say about these two home locations? One is on South Main Street, near "The Square" and the other is located on Elizabeth Street. Is one location preferable to the other? We would like to know.
We want to be in town, not in the country and are well aware of the inherent drawbacks for some people. We just want to know a little about each location from anyone who is not totally adverse to city living. Thanks for the input!

Hello, fellow night owl! :-D

I'm actually not familiar with any residential dwellings along South Main Street near Public Square. Heading south from the square along South Main Street you pass through a dense commercially-zoned area for quite some distance. If the home is located along South Main Street anywhere near Academy Street or points on southwards I'd say it would be best to steer clear and instead hedge towards Elizabeth Street.

Both area's are in residential neighborhoods in South W-B. Elizabeth st. runs right off of Carey Ave. which is not the best street in the city. Carey ave is kind of a bad area. I'm not sure about Elizabeth st. itself, but I'd definately do some more research on that area, talk to some neighbors that live down there ect. Now the S. Main st. area by Blackman st. It depends what block you are looking at. Anything between Academy and Hanover st. is a little shady, but the few blocks directly after Blackman st going south are nice tree lined blocks. So it depends on where exactly you are looking.

retrovintage is on a distinguished road
The South Main St - near Blackman is a semi safe area. Elizabeth Street however - not very safe at all. Too close to the A Plus mini market that has been a magnet for trouble. People getting robbed outside of it constantly.

South Main Street location is a bit better.

Well said and spot on! I agree 100%. If the poster is talking about the area going south past Blackman towards Hanover, then that's a nice little area right on the W-B border line. There are some nice houses up there. As for that A-Plus, that got held up so many times that they had to install bullet proof glass! It looks like a mini market you would see in North Philly, you have to pass your money through a little slot when you by something there.
