After restaurants went to the expense of changing and rearranging to be able to allow patrons to smoke the law was changed and no smoking at all came about. The restaurants suffered at the beginning. Fortunately that has changed and its more acceptable. But many bars (especially where regulars frequented daily) lost business. The same thing is happening in Atlantic City. The casinos want to allow smoking in designated areas. They are fighting this now.

Hi and thanks to everyone who assisted gathering info.
With regards to NY sales, and again this is input directly from business owners themselves, they explained that when the figures were calculated at the beginning of the ban, it was solely done with the figures of bar/restaurants. After approximately ten months, the new figures included all restaurants, McDonalds, Wendy's, Dunkin Donuts, etc., and the average sales increased because of the group in which they were included. They directed me to this link which displayed the number of businesses that have either closed or reduced staffs because of decreases in sales.

I was fortunate to be able to interview the CEO's of the Hilton and Showboat casinos, and they informed me that the reason that the enactment of Atlantic City's total ban was postponed for a year was because of an average decrease in gross revenues of 27% in the two weeks of its enforcement, a yearly decrease of $160,000,000 that resulted in layoffs after two weeks.
Again, I'm trying to gather credible information. The research I've compiled with regard to second hand smoke or ETS has opened my eyes with regard to the EPA. I entered the phrase "second hand smoke junk science" into the Google search engine and researched from that entry. The conflicting information that I've gathered really makes one wonder about the credibilty of these surveys, and the pre-election polls are a prime example of stasticle manipulation.
Thanks again for your input.

From my own personal survey, 14 establishments in Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Old Forge and Pittston, the members of the staff that I have interviewed have indicated a tremendous decrease in sales and gratuities. I would appreciate your own observations, not opinions, as it relates to this subject.
The information will be used in a thesis and will not reference any individual's comments.

Ok well in observation we went into a restaurant that most of us in the family backed out of previously. This is true, and some of us at different times then others.
Last month I was able to go with my husband into the place for a breakfast after some tests were done. I would not have been able to do that before. My husband can't be by second hand smoke, and my lungs don't handle it well at all.
The little one who has asthma in the family could not have ever gone into this restaurant, now he can.
I think it should now promote good business, rather then it lose business.
Many of us in the family can't handle smoke, allergy wise.........so this is a godsend.
