By George....what exactly is that 'stuff' made of? What makes it taste like turkey?

Wouldn't one be more concerned about the 87 ingredients in the stuff?
I've read the ingredients on those 'morning star' vegetarian things and there is quite a lot of chemicals and stuff packed in those healthy things.

Actually, the "turkey" has no "chemicals" on it's ingredient list!! Here's an excerpt from their website as well...

"What are Quorn foods made from?
Quorn foods are made with mycoprotein, an edible fungi like truffles, morels and mushrooms.

How is mycoprotein made?
Mycoprotein for Quorn foods is grown using a controlled fermentation process so that it can be harvested consistently. All natural vegetable flavorings are added to the mycoprotein to create the desired flavor (like chicken or beef), as well as a small amount of egg white. Then it's formed into shapes like nuggets, tenders and cutlets.

Are Quorn foods genetically modified?
No. All Quorn products are made with GMO-free ingredients."

The "Morningstar" & "Boca" products DO use a bunch of chemicals, but as I try to eat everything in "moderation", I don't worry too much about it!!

I make most of my food myself, but every now & then get a "hankering" for a veggie hot dog or hamburger, so if I eat 2 boxes of the stuff a year it's a lot!!

Also, look at the labels of any prepared food & it's scary!!

Being a vegetarian over 30 years, I've done a lotta "research" on stuff 'cause there's a TON of "hidden" things in our food supply!!

Even just cheeses. Some cheese companies use the acid from the lining of small animal's stomachs to coagulate the milk!!
Ketchup contains a TON of sugar!!
Some yogurts, fruit drinks, etc. (with a "red" color) are dyed with color gotten from a beetle whose carapace is red!!
And the "hidden" salt in most foods!!! No wonder salt intake is so high!!

People don't realize sometimes what's "in" their food!!

That is so right! If something has things I can't pronounce and still don't know what they are after googling them, then I don't think I need to eat it!

On the same topic, have you seen the commercials lately for High Fructose Corn Syrup? They're trying to say it's healthy in 'moderation'. Have you noticed how many foods contain HFCS? It is in just about everything from prepackaged muffins to catsup! How is that moderation for the average American family?!?!? I've tried to eliminate it from my diet which means, like JG, I'm making most of my own foods.

Being veggie, I don't really miss most dead things. I like my veggie burgers made with veggies and beans (long live the food processor!) and they don't (and shouldn't) taste like meat. I never liked the taste of chicken, was allergic to pork and only ate turkey once a year. The only thing I miss occassionally, and I don't see it on the quorn website (but also didn't really look), is corned beef. However, since some family members expect to see a dead thing on the table on Christmas, perhaps I'll try this quorn turkey thing instead. I'll have to test it out on my b/f or friends first though.

Sad but true!! Even when it comes to things OUTside my body I do my homework!! I even use only Castille or Rokeach soap (hard to find as it is) 'cause of what they put in most brands!! (slaughterhouse fat & renderings...).

It's like that pretty Jello that everyone loves!! The base ingredient is made outta hooves & bones!! YUK!!!

It's virtually impossible in this day & age to keep away from all the crap (unless you grow all of your food & are in 100% control), but a little research goes a long way towards keeping the stuff to a minimum!!

Hey, poconoproud and Sum! Yep. It was cold 'round these parts yesterday. It's the whole way up to 22 degrees right now. I left here yesterday around 10:30ish and headed to Wilkes Barre. As I was getting off that first ramp on Rt. 81 I could see a lot of snow squalls off in the distance. There was a dusting of snow when I headed south on 115 around 4:00.

I only wish I could freeze my buns off! Maybe I could wrap up in a blanket, open in window, sit on the sill, eat chocolate chip cookies, and........................ Never mind. Sorry for that visual.

JG and LIL......Ok, Your ruining my vision of the "Turkey Feast".......I see myself "walking" the "turkey" to the festive table and turning around.....()

Its a family tradition that I have to cook the "dead thing" and place it before my family......( Oh you have given me giggle here).........It is one thing ALL of the family likes, and that is saying something in this family of picky eaters.

Ah, they all like Thanksgiving Day.......and the Pilgrams seemed to do ok after their feasting....

I think I am going to go sit on the sill with Rockky and we'll both have some Chocolate Chip Cookies....Rock, are they warm???

Stop making me so hungry, gosh darn it! Now I'm going to have to run across the street and start gnawing on the leg of my neighbor's dog!
