That's an opuntia cactus. Has yellow flowers that turn into fruit (in the stores they're called "prickly pears"). I have one in the fridge now to cut up & have with some whipped cream!! (they grow wild around here...) The fruit gets about 3-4" long & bright red when ripe.

They have long thorns which hurt if you get stuck, but also have small "thistle thorns" that you can barely see that are MUCH worse if ya get them in your hands or fingers, so be careful if ya go "fruit pickin'"!!!

Oh gosh, I'm not going pickin'........its on someones property.
I have never heard of this fruit. Emmmmm with whip cream. Sounds wonderful.....
The twins( little fellows) are cactus lovers. So this fall I purchased two cactus for them........they lit up as if it were a Wi game I was giving them. I had promised them, but just couldn't find one. Then on a walk in a flea market there they were. Their names..? But one looked almost like a small, small version of this .................

The small one is probably an opuntia also, but there's different varieties...

The fruit is sweet with no distinctive taste, but it's high in fiber!!

BOY COMMISH!! Le Creuset cookware, filet mignon, fancy-schmancy beer....y'all BEST become a successful lawyer to keep yourself in that kinda style!!! (and don't hook up with a lady who only likes the "finer" things...you'll end up in the poorhouse!!)

When I was your age I was on the road...lived on coffee, cigarettes, JD & the occasional food item put in front of me when we stopped!! (that's why I was so skinny & looked good in them spandex pants...) I'm MUCH more refined now...(JG places coffee cup delicately on old envelope "coaster" by computer so he can wipe nose with sleeve, burp & fart in unison & scratch butt...)

We've got a palm here called a "Macaw Palm" that has 3" spines over all of it's trunk and fronds. I always recommended it to clients with teenage daughters for planting outside their bedroom windows....
