Hi Retguy....most of the info on The Hideout here is pretty current or hasn't changed. I have lived in The Hideout for 15 years and consider it a safe place to live. I have never had any problems with crime, nor have I known anyone with problems. There were a few burglaries over the last year (4,000 homes, keep that in mind) but recently some teens were caught in the act and confessed to all the other burglaries, so they have aprehended them and they were responsible for all this year, which were a few. There are many vacant summer homes around me and their owners have never had any problems either. NO GANGS! I can't stress that enough either. The people who live here are nice, decent people.
If you have any other questions, I'd be happy to answer them. You can get actual statistics from our Security Force also.

I had those at one point, let me see if i can find them.

i was one of the locals that believed the gated communities were full of crime until i did my homework. Now i'm planning on having a home in the hideout when i get back as either investment or primary residence. Perhaps this january when i visit i'll make it in to check out the place

We have three people who reside in The Hideout on this board (Pupsmom, I LOVE PA, and Roxxy) as well as one former resident of the The Hideout (NYRangers2008), and all four have nothing but positive things to say about their experiences there. As far as I know every naysayer of this community who has ever graced this forum has resided in another community.

With that being said sometimes there IS merit to what "outsiders" claim about gated communities. For example, A Pocono Country Place (PCP) in Tobyhanna, Monroe County, has a very wicked reputation for crime, and that is substantiated by contacting the Pocono Mountain Regional Police force or the Pocono Record newspaper. Occasionally a resident or two from there will come onto this board to chastise the naysayers for being detrimental to their property values, but the statistics don't lie.

You're right Paul, I never had any problems in The Hideout. I have a good friend who lives there and she has lived there her whole life and loves it to this day. She likes the fact that it is a gated community with 24/7 security. As a matter of fact, I'm really thinking about moving back there myself.

I am a part time resident of the Hideout, which means my home is often vacant. I have never had any problems whatsoever. Security is very good. I have never seen anybody who would in any way give me reason to be concerned.

I also live in the Hideout. We only moved in 3 months ago and love it here. My husbands cousin has been here over 6 years and they told us before we bought our home that they have met the most wonderful people here and wouldnt trade this place for anywhere else.

There are many things to do here so if you like to join others it will be easy. We met so many people in our short time here. They made us feel welcome and included in everything.

I dont miss Brooklyn at all!!!

I started this topic and again want to thank all who responded. Here is my deal, married two children 11 & 7, did some research and spent some time in the Hideout, whole family thought it was great, bought a lot and house should be ready by late spring or early summer. It will be a vacation home but we plan on spending all free time at The Hideout. I explained to the family if we bought this house we could not afford any other vacations. I got hold of some disturbing stories regarding crime in the Hideout and started to panic.

retguy...you have no worries.
Your kids will never be bored either!
Since I have raised kids here for the last 15 years, I'd be happy to help you with kid activites!
The Hideout has a great kids camp, tennis program, Jr. Golf Team, competitive Swim team...and in the winter, the Ski Hill is a big hit for snowboarding, skiing, or using their tubing run. Ice skating rink on the premises along with a cute ski lodge.
Swimming...beaches...beach parties....holiday parties for the kids....outdoor movie nights....luaus....the list goes on.....
