Well, that is very sweet of you.......and it looks like you'll be living in our state in due time.......Great, we love to welcome posters in PA. We are friends, but we love "MORE friends". Always
I do love SNOW for Christmas, and early Winter, but.........then
Summering does follow the Sun and head south. After a few sleigh rides..

Ah, your sweet too.......even though I won't look at the word " older"..
Burnt Macaroni I'd like.......I just don't like garlic, onions, cabbage, and a bunch of other things.......Mac is always ok
With all your postings, you don't have time to cook.....

Well, yep........Last year was really a bad, bad, year. I know also from the Brazil girls who were hired to work at Camelback. ( and we have had quite a few bad years)
But, on a "GOOD" year there is a bunch of natural snow in the Poconos. In especially any slopes by Blakeslee. Good example would be Jack Frost. If they don't get a good bunch of natural snow, the others certainly won't.
I think it was '95 that it snowed just about every darn day. I remember because I shoveled, shoveled, and shoveled.......until spring.

Default A question...

Now that the ski season is upon us, I would like to ask a question - what facility, in your opinion, has the best "learn to ski" program? I'm not just talking price, but for the instruction as well?

My daughter has shown interest in learning to ski, and I was an avid skiier in my former life (high school), but I have learned that it's better all around if I have someone else do the honors of instructing my daughter! (Plus my 40+ body cannot handle the rigors of tackling the cold for hours anymore - and no comments about that from the peanut gallery!!)

Thanks!!

Ok Peanut Gallery, Who knows the answer for cathyde? I really don't know who has the best.
I use to know an instructor that worked at Shawnee. But, who has the better classes.......?

You are just too sweet Summering! I'd love to hang out at the lodge with you to 'watch'. I'm a spectator also! Now that my daughter is driving it makes me a little sad that she doesn't need me to drive her and her friends to Sno Mountain anymore!

We really should have a Holiday get together....We're one big happy family here!

Paul...do you like pierogies? I have a macaroni & cheese recipe with little chunks of potato and sauteed onions....YUM!!!
or stuffed shells with the potato/cheese filling, drowned in butter and sauteed onions!!! shlogies they're called. Getting off topic!!! Sorry!!!

cathyde - how old is your daughter? If she's very, very young it probably doesn't matter where you take her. They seem to pick it up as soon as they're strapped into the skis and they have no fear. If she's older I think good conditions are very important when learning to ski. I had more confidence learning when there wasn't a giant crowd of people standing around at the base of the mtn (ie Shawnee where every run comes together and ends in the same spot). Also difficult to learn when there's bad grooming or so little snow you're skiing on dirt (Camelback). Last year Jack Frost/Big Boulder did a great job keeping the conditions good. 3 years ago I thought I'd never ski there again but it's owned/operated by a different company now and they've really put a lot of money into it. Very good snowmaking - they don't just lay down a base and leave it, they make snow continuously throughout the season. They have wide, easy beginner runs and they keep all the lifts open so it keeps the lines shorter. They also have some easy intermediates so she can move on to other runs if she takes to it. I like the atmosphere there - there's music in two different places, nice lodge, fun skiing - just a good day all around. Big Boulder has night skiing so I'm not sure if they're open all day on weekends. They might not open until 3 or 4pm. Your lift ticket is also good in both place. Ok, my commercial for Jack Frost is over. lol.
