Skiing About to Start in the Poconos!
Wow, this morning they announced that the ski areas will start to open. Let the snow making begin!
From what the local channel announced Jack Frost may open soon as well. They might just have the slopes ready before the others.
Being as Jack Frost is in the higher elevations and there has already been a big snow storm in that area.
The Poconos is on tap for lots of snow showers during this entire week. A great week for making snow. Cold nights ( 20's).....not so warm days ahead.
Wax up your ski's.........Our 2008/09 season has begun.

I don't ski...but it does send a thrill when the kids can start to 'do their thing.' My daughter and her friends all snow board and they LIVE for this to happen!
Thanks Summering for the update....I'll keep watch for the local places.

Don't count your chickens before they ski off.....The last few winters have been mild but started out strong....Sno Mtn had to close not too long after they opened and so did Elk due to warm weather and rain....I never expect the season to really start until at least December but lately it seems that January is a good bet.

Ugh......one of the best times of the year is when I see the snow melting on Montage and green grass starting to show. In my opinion, its a good winter when the ski resorts are complaining about losing money.

I have been skiing/snowboarding since I was 4 and I agree with you...The conditions around here are marginal at best and when we do get snow if your not there on that day it gets pushed off and then there is nothing but ice.
I would rather have a mild winter and drive or fly somewhere for good conditions then ride/ski the junk we have been getting here.....

Weluvpa, Start counting chickens...........Jack Frost is in action Today!
Remember the Poconos already had a foot of snow. Is this a sign of whats to come?
Wax up your skis and head out! ( Well, Summering just loves to hang out at the lodge and pretend)...
Snow is beautiful, skiing is quite the exciting sport..........I'm a big fan of watching...
Its not my favorite time of year which is " Summer" of course. But, I think it is a great sport.
Fast, Fun, Crisp and delightful...........( Oh don't get me singin' ) Let it Snow, Let it Snow..~~~~~

Summering, your posts always puts a smile on my face!
It sounds like you love winter even more than I do, which is a lot!
Thanks for always being so cheerful and positive!

Don't get me wrong I love skiing/riding but the conditions here in NEPA are not that good.....Forget about the poconos for me ...No way, never on a weekend and if I have to drive then it would be to Elk or Vermont.
Anything that came out of that storm in October is frozen solid as a rock by now and they are just blowing ice water on top of it........Then they groom down the top layer of ice and call it snow.....

Jack Frost has great snowmaking and we had a great time skiing there last year. But there is definitely no natural snow in the area.
