Just trying to get an idea of what the rates are for babysitters in the NEPA. I do not mind paying a little extra is the person is good, but I am wondering with the average rate is for one child.

Thanks,

Hat

Memoriesbre offers childcare in her home I believe....she would be a good person to ask, as I'm sure she's researched the going rates...

Around our area I think between $5-$7 would be going rate. I prefer the $5 but that's hard to come by! What we've learned to do is just swap babysitting with a group of friends. Friday they go out and I watch their kids, Saturday we go out and she watches our kids. and it's FREE!!

Our daughter swaps too in her neighborhood. It gives each mother free time. Its only a couple of hours, but gosh..........shopping and little chores can get done.
I'd say the amount should be at least $5.00 per hour. Its a bit more then that over the border in NY.

One that I've been quoted was $5 + $2 per additional child per hour. For me that ended up being $9 / hour, shoot, more than I made as a secretary in an office!

My most recent babysitter has charged me less than that, but that's a personal friendship.

Bartering and swapping is generally my favored mode - my one girlfriend knows that she can drop her kids off with me, if I can do it, and I know I can do the same with her. No money exchanges hands between us - that's the only way to afford it. LOL
