Me and my DH will be closing on a house next month and I know the Scranton Times has a section in there court house news that lists all the the property transaction. Me and my DH are private people and would not like our names listed in the paper. Is there anyway to keep your names out of the paper? Thanks so much for your help.

I don't know, your best bet is to call the Times and ask them, or try the county recorder of deeds office.

I know back when we bought our home in 2005, I asked our lawyer who performed the closing if we could keep the transaction out of the paper, and he wasn't aware of any way to prevent it from posting. Maybe things have changed since then, who knows...good luck on your closing.

They pick up this information from public records. I don't think that there is any way to keep your name out of it.

Even if its not in the newspaper, in most cases you can get it online. I'm not sure about PA, but I know in some other states all you have to do is google the county and tax appraiser,
example: Lackawanna County PA tax appraiser, and ALL info is there, if you know the persons name or address. Nothing is sacred anymore !!!

Lackawanna County's website used to give out this info on who owned the property, price paid or worth, etc. It's public info.

You can call the newspaper and ask them not to print it though.

I am not an expert on this topic, but if you were to set up an estate or business to make the purchase of the property instead of doing it as individuals you may be able to somewhat protect your identity. However, it may still be possible for someone to figure out. Perhaps someone with more experience in such matters could chime in?

I think for Susquehanna county you need to pay for a subscription to access the tax records online.
